Payroll Supervisor - Toronto, Canada - Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise the daytoday operational duties of all Payroll associates/Department clerk (unionized group)
- Provide training to Associates, update processes and procedures etc.
- Responsible for Union dues setup for new or transferred employees
- Responsible for Reimbursements from WSIB for employee time already paid
- Import and reconcile all hospital biweekly timecard imports from time attendance system to payroll system, investigating data discrepancies/errors and resolves them as requested.
- Responsible for biweekly/offcycle payroll/monthly payroll (including run audit reports, balancing trial runs, processes special payment requests)
- Review and analyze reporting requirements to ensure that accurate payroll data is available as needed.
- Prepare biweekly and monthly reports and sends out to various stakeholders
- Responsible for all kinds of statutory remittance ( Tax remittance, EHT, WSIB, garnishments )
- Responsible for employee overpayments claw back and system adjustments
- Support all Year End activities and Year End filings
- Collaborate with the Financial Services, Human Resource Services and Payroll departments to provide support for the functions and responsibilities of the payroll department.
- Monitoring changes from different unions for different collective agreements and federal and provincial legislation changes, work with system specialist/payroll analyst to test and implement changes timely.
- Assist Payroll Manager on projects, audits and special requests from internal and external clients
- Provide backup support for the Payroll Manager.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Ensure great customer service at all levels.
Qualifications required include:
- Demonstrated understanding of legal regulations with regards to a hospital setting, e.g. CRA, multiple collective agreements in a unionized environment, HOOPP Pension, EHT, WSIB etc.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize work effectively, manage a full workload and meet deadlines in a busy environment, with frequent interruptions.
- Demonstrated trouble shooting skills and ability to problem solve
- Demonstrated exceptional customer service skills, are required.
- Ability to process timesheet data, ensuring it is complete, accurate and meet deadline requirements.
- Ability to manage routine correspondence, multiple tasks/projects, diversified workload and rapidly changing priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Ability to respond to inquiries from employees, department managers and other stakeholders in a timely and professional manner in order to resolve issues and provide information.
- Ability to conduct regular review, audit and reconciliation of payroll and accounting information, ensure compliance with Hospital policies, collective agreements, procedures and practices.
- Strong mathematical, research, problemsolving, strategic thinking, and planning skills.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office software, e.g. Word, Excel, Access, Power Point and Outlook.
- NPI certified PCP (Payroll Compliance Professional) is required. PLP (Payroll Leadership Professional) and other accounting designations would be an asset but not a requirement.
- A minimum of five (5) years' experience of progressive responsibility in providing payroll, and accounting services for a large, multiunionized employer or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience, preferably in a multi unionized environment.
- Knowledge of hospital payroll would be an asset
