Foreperson, Roads Operations and Maintenance

Public Works - Transportation
Regular Full-Time

Salary Range:
$86, 443 to $108,052 per annum (plus comprehensive benefits, where applicable)

Location: 2 Copper Road, Brampton, ON


Hours of work: 35 Hours per week; Able and willing to respond to after hour calls and work standby shifts as required.

The Transportation team constructs, operates, plans and maintains a multi-modal network of assets such as roadways, bridges, sidewalks and multi-use trails, stormwater infrastructure, street-lighting, traffic signals, noise and retaining walls, signs, safety barriers and street trees.

- _Approximately 11 employees. Able to provide coverage in the absense of other Forepersons.


What you will do in this role:

  • Select methods and direct Road Maintenance crew staff to complete work on time, within budget and in accordance with Regional and Provincial standards and relevant Ministry regulations
  • Troubleshoot and take appropriate action to effectively resolve issues following legislated policies, procedures and guidelines
  • Hire, coach, motivate, assign work to and discipline employees. Provide direction and guide contractors
  • Resolve and address resident complaints and concerns ensuring high standards of customer service
  • Create, monitor and adhere to activity budgets
  • Analyze road maintenance programs and research efficiencies to ensure continuous improvement in Road maintenance section

What the role requires:


  • Successful completion of a college diploma in related field, combined with a minimum of five (5) years related experience
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered
  • Successful completion of the Construction and Maintenance Courses for the Ontario Good Roads Association (OGRA) TJ Mahony Road School is a strong asset
  • Completion of OGRA's CS Anderson courses is a strong asset
  • Understanding of relevant issues, services and processes including salt management and winter maintenance practices and standards
  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching and mentoring skills to motivate and provide guidance to staff and contractors ensuring high standards of professional service.
  • Valid "G" license in good standing.

Skills/Abilities:


  • Knowledge of applicable policies, processes, legislation, regulations and standards
  • Effective interpersonal skills to liaise with external and internal clients and staff, coordinate work and resolve conflicts.
  • Strong organizational skills to plan and schedule work ensuring proper allocation of resources (both staff and equipment) preparation of activity reports, budget overruns and project scope changes.
  • Polished verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong planning, administrative and computer skills
  • Able to multitask and prioritize workload effectively
  • Demonstrate a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through continuous development, modeling inclusive behaviors, and proactively managing bias

Work Mode & Job Location:

Onsite at 2 Copper Road, Brampton, ON; able to travel within the Region of Peel


Hours of Work: 35 Hours per week; Able and willing to respond to after hour calls and work standby shifts as required. Possibly works overnight shifts and on rotational shifts during winter months to support winter maintenance.
