Job Summary


The Finance - Project Officer for Engineering is responsible for execution of the Western Region Basic Capital Plan for Engineering.

The incumbent ensures Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) processes are adhered to and proper SOX controls are organized for each of the Basic Capital Programs.

The role administers and controls project management deliverables, including administration of the project plan, mandatory Basic Capital Monthly Reviews, project documents, financial reporting, and controls.

The position oversees financial reports, field support, and any Basic Capital questions or concerns to the Engineering team.


Main Responsibilities
Basic Capital Planning

  • Provide support and direction on the Basic Capital planning process, responsible for the development, monitoring, and maintenance of cost planning and administration as well as Engineering Capital Planning System (ECPS) and Monthly Basic Capital Reviews.

Reporting and SOX Compliance

  • Support Engineering in maintenance reporting to Basic Capital and oversee SOX compliance.
  • Assist with correcting any inaccurate charges efficiently.

Development

  • Aid the Assistant Project Officer (APO) with auditing Basic Capital Programs to ensure SOX compliance prior to the External and Internal Audit.

Training

  • Support Engineering by hosting Engineering Financial Courses in person or online to key stakeholders.

Working Conditions
The role has standard working conditions in an office environment with a regular workweek from Monday to Friday.

Due to the nature of the role, the incumbent must be able to meet tight deadlines, handle pressure, and stress.

The role requires occasional travel (15%).


Requirements:

Experience

Finance/Accounting

  • Experience in budgeting and forecasting
  • Accounting experience, specifically in performing posting of journal entries
and preparing financial reports.


Project Management


Experience in managing tasks, and timelines to achieve a specific goal while considering factors such as scope, time, cost, quality, and risk.


Other

  • Experience working in a CN business unit, preferably Engineering
  • Any experience for these above would be considered as an asset

Education/Certification/Designation

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Commerce, or Engineering
  • Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA) or working towards
  • Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or working towards
  • Any designation for these above would be considered as an asset

  • Any knowledge for any of the above would be considered as an asset
