Position Overview


As a Regional Economic Development Analyst, you will play a crucial role in developing and leading projects to stimulate economic growth, create employment opportunities, and promote sustainable development within our region.

Through your expertise in data analysis, market research, and policy evaluation, you will provide valuable insights and recommendations to guide decision-making processes and drive positive economic outcomes.

With a focus on the City of Edmonton's Cultural Commitments to Safe, Helpful, Accountable, Integrated and Excellent, you will:

  • Economic Data Analysis: Collect, analyze, and interpret relevant economic data, including employment trends, industry performance, investment patterns, and demographic information. Conduct statistical analysis and develop comprehensive reports to identify growth opportunities, emerging sectors, and areas for improvement
  • Market Research: Conduct research on local, regional, and global market trends, competitive landscapes, and industry best practices. Evaluate market potential and identify target sectors for investment attraction and business development initiatives
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with local businesses, government agencies, industry associations, educational institutions, and other relevant stakeholders to foster partnerships, gather insights, and align economic development strategies. Act as a liaison between the organization and external stakeholders, promoting effective communication and fostering positive relationships
  • Policy Evaluation and Development: Assess existing policies, regulations, and incentives related to economic development. Make recommendations for policy enhancements to support business growth, innovation, and job creation. Participate in policy development initiatives and provide expertise in economic impact assessment
  • Project Management: Manage and coordinate economic development projects, including feasibility studies, business attraction campaigns, workforce development initiatives, and infrastructure development plans. Monitor project progress, budget allocation, and performance metrics to ensure successful outcomes
  • Performance Measurement: Develop and implement performance measurement frameworks to track and evaluate the effectiveness of economic development programs and initiatives. Prepare regular progress reports and present findings to senior management and key stakeholders
  • Professional Development: Stay updated with the latest trends, research, and best practices in regional economic development. Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops to enhance knowledge and skills related to economic analysis, policy development, and project management

Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Accounting, Public Policy, or a related field; a masters degree is preferred
  • Project management or economic development accreditation is an asset
  • 5 years of progressively responsible experience in economic analysis, including market and sector research, statistical and proformas
  • Experience and skill in the use of analytics and data intelligence, including proficiency with data analysis software and statistical tools
  • Advanced knowledge of research methodology with the ability to collect data, interpret, and present complex data effectively
  • Proficiency of economic development principles, strategies, and best practices
  • Significant knowledge of corporate priorities, strategies, and initiatives and associated timelines associated with the corporate reporting processes and/or protocols is an asset
  • Familiarity with Alberta government policies, regulations, and programs related to economic development.
  • Significant skill and ability in project management, including planning, coordination, and monitoring of contractors
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present findings to diverse audiences and express complex ideas and concepts effectively and persuasively
  • Experience with grant writing is an asset.
  • Ability to integrate strategic planning into operational practice
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build and maintain relationships with stakeholders
  • Skill and expertise leading integrated terms and demonstrated results in working with interdisciplinary teams
