THE POSITION
Reporting to the Vice President, Administrative Services and with accountability to the President and Vice-Chancellor, the Associate Vice President & Chief Human Resources Officer ("AVP & CHRO") participates in the college wide leadership and management of Sheridan as a member of the Administrative Services team and is responsible for ensuring the strategic HR People Plan supports the advancement of Sheridan's Strategic Plan.
The AVP & CHRO leads the development and implementation of transformative human resource priorities, operations, and services - and ensures these priorities are a key strategic consideration at Sheridan.
The incumbent provides senior level oversight to policy, procedures, and programs supported by exceptional governance practices, operational effectiveness and compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
The AVP & CHRO ensures the portfolio is collaborative and responsive to the need of its many clients and stakeholders.
He/she provides expert advice and counsel to leaders at all levels regarding the administration of Sheridan HR policies, practices, and operational systems across all functional areas (i.e., labour relations, recruitment, total compensation, HRIS, HR planning, and occupational health and safety).
The CHRO has a critical responsibility to ensure that all human resource activities contribute positively to building and sustaining an organizational culture that consistently recognizes the value of Sheridan's people.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Administrative Leadership & Planning:
Actively participates with senior leadership in the provision of strategic planning, policies, and operational decision making
Provides advice and direction on administrative issues such as college and human resource plans, policies, and programs to Sheridan's Senior Leadership, Executive Council and, through the President, to the Board of Governors
Serves as key HR advisor to the President and Vice President
Ensures that the senior leaders are informed about HR issues and initiatives which impact operations across Sheridan
Makes decisions regarding the management of HR strategic and operational resources; participates in operational decision-making affecting the current and future effectiveness and fiscal viability of Sheridan
Provides leadership at the request of the President, Vice President and Executive Council for special projects and initiatives, undertaking research and providing best professional advice regarding a wide variety of issues and projects
Enters into agreements on behalf of Sheridan
Leadership and Direction of the HR Division (Plan, Programs and Services):
Develops and implements the broad HR strategy and priorities related to the Strategic Plan, Academic Plan, Sustainability initiatives, and People Plan, in collaboration with senior leadership and supported by the Centre Professional and Organization Development
Provides senior management leadership to administrators, and staff in the HR portfolio which includes Total Compensation, Pension & Benefits, Talent Acquisition, HRIS, Occupational Health & Safety, Labour Relations, Employment Relations and Partnerships
Develops divisional strategic plans for HR, which align with and enable Sheridan's vision and strategy
Provides oversight to the HR leadership team who develop, recommend, implement, and monitor policies, procedures, and programs for all human resources operations to ensure consistency with Sheridan objectives/strategic plans
Provides oversight and direction to ensure that Sheridan human resources/labour relations activities follow collective agreement and legislative requirements
Provides oversight to strategic human resource planning initiatives while ensuring that ongoing activity is undertaken to review and analyze current and future needs
