    Description

    Introduction

    Forestry and Peatlands Branch within the department of Economic Development, Investment, Trade and Natural Resources is seeking a qualified individual for the position of Mitigation and Adaptation Forester located in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
    Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Must be willing and able to travel to remote locations throughout the Province of Manitoba via truck, all-terrain vehicle, boat, and by rotary or fixed wing aircraft.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid full Manitoba Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent from other provinces without any restrictions.
  • Must be willing and able to work overtime when required, and work out-of-town for extended periods with overnight accommodations in bunkhouses, hotels, and tents.
  • Must be physically capable of performing the duties of the position, which may require moderate physical effort (e.g. Carry equipment such as chainsaws and forestry samples for long distances potentially over rough terrain and in adverse weather conditions).
  • Qualifications: Essential:
  • Post secondary degree in forestry, natural resource management, environmental management, or biological sciences. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience developing and implementing climate change mitigation and adaption activities related to boreal forest management and renewal practices.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating climate change policies relating to boreal forests and/or peatlands.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills to prioritize workloads and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written communication skills, including technical writing and preparing synthesis documents.
  • Demonstrated problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Experience working with Indigenous peoples and communities.
  • Knowledge of Forestry legislation and policy.
  • Duties: Reporting directly to the Section Manager, Planning and Development, the position is responsible for mitigation and adaptation related research and policy development for the branch. This includes liaising with internal and external stakeholders on activities relating to climate change mitigation and adaptation; and implementing related projects.
