    Shangri-La, Toronto

    Assist in the daily shift operations of the Engineering Department ensuring the highest level maintenance and working order of guestrooms, equipment, public and heart of house areas through supervisory direction of Engineering Colleagues, maximizing the balance between Guest, Colleague and Owner Satisfaction.

    With high integrity, ensures a 5 star experience to guests and Shangri-La hospitality from caring people.

  • Provide technical expertise and competence in areas of hotel engineering/facility/building maintenance.
  • Maintain positive internal and external relationships and communicate with internal colleagues to advise of guest service needs, items which require maintenance and issues of concern in a prompt, proactive manner as appropriate.
  • Ensure compliance to all hotel policies, standards, procedures and practices.
  • Manage energy conservation and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of departmental supplies, parts, tools and equipment.
  • Prioritize and respond to all guest and internal maintenance requests in timely and efficient manner.
  • Respect environmental guidelines.
  • Actively demonstrate teamwork, safe work practices, and open communication, accuracy in transactions, respect, sincerity, helpfulness, courtesy and humility.
  • Recruits & manages Engineering Colleagues and effectively coaches, trains, motivates communicates, recognizes, schedules and manages performance as required.
  • Coordinate scheduling of Hotel Engineering team in conjunction with Westbank.
  • Manages payroll, adhering to the set procedures for attendance and timekeeping.
  • Responsible for checking the workmanship of all project-related works and activities to ensure quality according to Hotel standards
  • Responsible for ensuring that all the highlights in the checklist of the Work Authorization are complied with and in accordance to Hotel safety standards.
  • Assists, facilitates and supervises work of the Engineering colleagues and contractors in the guestrooms to ensure its timely completion according to Hotel schedule, safety and protection of company assets.
  • Responds promptly, exercising sound and reasonable judgment, ultimately ensuring successful problem resolution.
  • Plans, organizes, directs, controls and supervises the in-house work and projects by Engineering colleagues and coordinates with the Supervisors of project contractors to ensure that all work is carried out effectively, economically and timely.
  • Reports any malpractices, non-conformances and unusual occurrences with respect to the conduct of all activities in the Hotel.
  • Conducts Corporate Audits.
  • Summarizes cost estimates for all projects and work in the Hotel related to guestrooms.
  • Oversee all Engineering related purchasing and procurement. This is to include month end reconciliation with Finance.
  • Coordinates with Westbank and/or the Project Management Team for any related activities as the need may arise.
  • Provides assistance and support during the Budget season.
  • Responsible for ensuring the availability of necessary materials for in-house work and projects conducted by Engineering colleagues to avoid unnecessary work stoppage and ensure early job completion.
  • Ensures all work in the guestrooms follow our SOPs on HOT permits, by pass of alarm system and lockout tag-out.
  • Ensures that work/project site is left clean and uncluttered after every work day.
  • Assists Security with all Fire-Life Safety related activities in guestrooms.
  • Coordinates Engineering support as required in Hotel emergency procedures immediately.
  • Participates in Hotel activities concerning the protection of the environment, promoting and upholding environmentally friendly practices reduce, reuse, recycle.
  • Attends meetings as required.
  • Assists Engineers and Colleagues in other departments, as requested and undertakes other ad hoc related responsibilities, as required.

    Other Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years previous work experience in a similar capacity within an international world-class hotel brand.
  • Demonstrated understanding for luxury hotel standards of service.
  • Must be available to work night, weekends, and/or holidays
