ABOUT YELLOW BRICK HOUSE:


The Yellow Brick House/ Project Hostel is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to providing services to women who have experienced violence and abuse.

The Yellow Brick

House provides emergency shelter, transitional housing, crises, and short-term supportive counselling to abused women and their children in York Region.

We are a dedicated to providing services within a supportive environment that helps women and their children regain control of their lives.


PROFILE:


Reporting to the Supervisor of Direct Services, the Mental Health Counsellor will provide clinical and therapeutic counselling to support clients who have been impacted by violence.

The

Counsellor will address a range of mental health issues, including emotional, behavioral and/or psychiatric, substance use, or other such symptoms the client may be experiencing.

The Mental
Health Counsellor will provide one-to-one counselling to our clients located primarily at the shelters.

They will also work with clients in the community and liaison with external mental health agencies and medical professionals to ensure the provision of appropriate resources.

This position will collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team of counsellors, transitional, and housing workers, and provide training specifically as it relates to mental health and working within a harm reduction framework.


RESPONSIBILITIES:


The major responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

Trauma Counselling, Crises Intervention and Case Management


Provide long term counselling services to clients who have identified a need for mental health counselling supports and/or supports with using a harm reduction approach regarding substance use.

Counselling will be provided in a trauma-informed, anti-racist, harm reduction, inclusive, equitable, and responsive framework.

  • Conduct intake and discharge interviews with clients, as required.
  • Deliver remotely and/or inperson, goalfocused counselling based upon comprehensive, strengthbased assessments.
  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of clients' mental health support needs, including trauma history, and develop individualized treatment plans.
  • Provide clinical counselling and work in collaboration with internal and external resources to support client growth towards their selfidentified goals.
  • Respond to calls on Yellow Brick House's 24hour crisis line during business hours when necessary.

Referral and Advocacy:


  • Coordinate client case conferencing/management with other service providers; advocacy (i.e., legal, housing, social services) and provide accompaniment as appropriate.
  • Provide referrals to appropriate community resources.
  • Attend relevant community meetings to facilitate wraparound support for clients.

Documentation, Maintenance, Administration:


  • Maintain daily, confidential, pertinent, accurate and nonjudgmental logging of client information on WISH.
  • Ensure that all intake/discharge and all other appropriate information is complete.
  • Ensure that statistics are entered accurately at the assigned reporting cycle.
  • Develop tracking systems to generate data on wellbeing, genderbased data, and economic indicators.
  • Create and maintains accurate referral records.
  • Provide quarterly reports on program delivery, effectiveness, and initiatives.

  • Communicate fully and openly with supervision; keep supervisor fully informed of relevant client information.
  • Active and positive participation in regular team meetings
  • Maintain a positive approach and a professional manner.
  • Keeps upto date on issues relating to genderbased violence and evidencebased practices for support.
  • Enhance community awareness of Yellow Brick House programs throughout York Region and participate in agency presentations as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

HEALTH AND SAFETY RESPONSIBLITIES:


  • Follow the duties and responsibilities specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act
Sections 2- Ensure all safety and non-safety rules and regulations are followed.

  • Ensure adherence to established safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.
  • Attends Environmental Health and Safety training.
  • Adhere to Yellow Brick House's health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Report any known hazard, defect, incident or compliance issue to the employer or supervisor.
  • Understand BILL 168 and uphold the policies that prohibit domestic violence, workplace violence and harassment in the Workplace.
