General Manager Operations - Tank & Flatbed


We are currently seeking a General Manager of Operations - Tank & Flatbed, who will primarily be responsible to demonstrate efficiency while ensuring all employees and Owner Operators comply with applicable legislation, including safe operation, carriage of goods, drivers' hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions.

This role must have three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the transportation industry.


Job Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Sales department, promote Joseph Haulage by selling lanes and developing/sourcing new flatbed and tank opportunities to support the growth goals.
  • Ensure all employees, owner operators, and independent drivers comply with applicable legislation, including but not limited to safe operation of equipment, carriage of goods, hours of service, occupational health and safety, transportation of dangerous goods, and weights and dimensions.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise Dispatch Staff as needed.
  • Lead, Manage and be Accountable
  • Benchmark fleet utilization and minimize empty miles; push the daytoday operations for continuous improvement.
  • Report vehicle defects, accidents, traffic violations, or damage to company vehicles at sites to appropriate personnel, Safety and/or Maintenance. Work with Maintenance to ensure timely preventative and annual maintenance on the fleet.
  • Develop and update processes; communicate and hold all team members accountable to the Joseph Simple Strategy.
  • Work with the Safety department to ensure that all applicable compliance requirements and training are met and completed.
  • Support Executive Vice President as well as Dispatch, in development, and achievement, of strategic performance metrics and targets that are consistent with company goals.
  • At sites, oversee staff, owner operators, and independents to ensure work is being performed according to established standards.
  • Handle customer complaints and comments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What you bring

  • Three years of experience in a management role and five years of experience in the transportation industry.
  • Experience in tank & flatbed is an asset.
  • Postsecondary education in management, or a field related to the transportation industry, is a strong asset.
  • Proven experience with resource management.
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
  • Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports.
  • A welldefined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills. Strong work ethic with proven ability to adapt to changing priorities with a positive attitude in an entrepreneurial environment.
  • Honest and team oriented, active at cultivating business & workplace relationships

Salary:
$80,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
