- Leads the development of strategies and structures that promote effective implementation, adoption, and sustainment of the Nurse Practitioner role across the organization that includes NP role development.
- Participates in key initiatives that align with Ministry strategic initiatives and mandates that impact IH NPs and patients.
- Liaises and partners with key partners across the province including BC College of Nursing and Midwives, NNPBC and the Nursing Policy Secretariat to develop, consult, and implement new programs and initiatives.
- Monitors practice trends, identifies opportunities to promote innovation, effective partnerships, quality improvement, and consistent delivery of quality care throughout IH. Develops mechanisms for engagement and leadership with respect to academic partnerships, opportunities for fellowships, preceptorships, mentoring, teaching and research.
- Conducts clinical practice performance evaluations for all NPs across IH through the performance partnership system. Makes decisions regarding NP clinical practice that affect the quality and operating objectives of multiple departments and programs from primary care, community, to acute and ambulatory settings.
- Ensures that effective processes are in place that align with Medical Affairs, the Department of Nurse Practitioners, and IH medical staff rules and bylaws, IH policy, Ministry/Provisional policy and legislation, and professional standards.
- Leads the implementation of change initiatives (e.g., legislative and practice related) and assesses the potential and/or actual impact of regional initiatives on the practice environment as well as the inherent risks to patients/outcomes.
- Provides leadership and expert advice on staffing, skill mix, and care delivery approaches through interprofessional collaborative practice; promotes patient safety, best practices, improved access to care, and efficient flow of patients across the continuum of care.
- Identifies risks to practitioners and/or IH associated with professional practice standards, plans corrective actions(s) as required and analyzes the outcomes of the actions in collaboration with the Department of Nurse Practitioners.
- Manages financial resources by preparing the portfolio budget for approval, monitoring the budget, identifying variances, and taking corrective action required in order to maintain fiscal responsibility and accountability. Supports operational supervisors in these functions through regular consultations.
- Develops contracts, grant and research proposals that support initiatives and provide sustainable processes related to those initiatives. Oversees the successful completion of these projects.
- Represents IH Nurse Practitioners and the Professional Practice program on regional, provincial and external agency committees.
- Performs Nurse Practitioner duties as assigned; maintains a minimum 0.2 FTE of clinical practice in an IH setting.

How will you create an impact :
The Director, Nurse Practitioners is responsible and accountable for the leadership of IH Nurse Practitioners (NPs) within the assigned programs/portfolios.
Including the strategic planning and leadership; operational oversite and human resource planning; professional development; and collaborates with the IH Nurse Practitioner Department leadership team to promote safety and quality care.
The Director develops Nurse Practitioner policy and standards and oversees the work of the Nurse Practitioner portfolios, in the provision of Nurse Practitioner professional development and mentorship.
In alignment with IH's Occupational Health & Safety Program, maintain a healthy and safe work environment through complying with and implementing applicable Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, responding to requests from WSBC, identifying hazards and communicating risks, ensuring compliance with employee training, conducting effective incident investigations and implementing required corrective actions.
