At this time, the

Halifax Port Authority ("HPA") requires a


Rigger/ Boat Operator
The role reports to the Working Shop Foreman, Rigger.

Under immediate supervision performs the duties of a rigger; maintains equipment; follows safety regulations; performs other related duties.


Specific Accountabilities

Rigging


Performs the duties of a rigger as required for various operations, work projects or maintenance work lifting, moving, slinging, fastening, and all lifting devices.


Maintains fenders as required by removing, cleaning, repairing, and replacing or other functions connected with fenders and constructs new fenders as required.

Assists in placing, repairing and removing fenders on all piers.

Maintains rubber-tire protection on all piers by replacing, repairing or removing tires.

Performs all rigging required by other shops, such as rigging required on lighting towers, etc.


Equipment Maintenance


Inspects and carries out maintenance of equipment by greasing cables, sheaves and other equipment as required, and reports any problems or defects to Working Shop Foreman, Rigger.

Prepares safety lines, ropes, slings, etc. as required.


Carries out routine inspections on eye bolts, bull rails, pier ladders and other equipment or facilities, and reports any problems to Working Shop Foreman, Rigger.


Assists Working Shop Foreman, Rigger in operation of removing work boat and other boats from harbour for inspection and maintenance repairs.


Safety
Complies with HPA's Occupational Health and Safety Policy (HR and all Occupational Health and Safety regulations as outlined by the Canada Labour Code. Demonstrates a commitment to promoting a safety culture while ensuring all safety procedures, policies, and best practices are followed.

Follows safety procedures/measures while performing duties.

Wears protective clothing and equipment while performing duties, as required.

Ensures all accidents are reported to supervisor.


Environmental Management System


Responsible for complying with HPA's Environmental Policy and demonstrating knowledge of and adherence to the Environmetal Management System(EMS), including associated programs and procedures applicable to daily tasks.

Detailed roles and responsibilities are included in the EMS Core Manual.


Other Duties
Removes debris and other objects from harbour waters and assists with disposal as required.

Assists with operation and maintenance of HPA work boat as required.

Performs duties of Working Shop Foreman, Rigger and operates workboat and Operations boat, as required.

Inspects and assists in inspections of marine equipment and assets.

Operates heavy equipment as required.

Assists in other shops as required.

Performs snow removal operations.


NOTE:

These are only the basic and primary duties; related and allied duties may be assigned from time to time as may become necessary to the operation of the Authority.

The hourly rate for this position is $37.3- _._
