Team & Job Overview

What CSI
Does:
The Country and Sector Intelligence (CSI) team is Canada's foremost country and sector intelligence team.

As a team, CSI has two branches, one is responsible for analyzing, forecasting, and assessing sector and industry trends and providing sector intelligence and information.

The second branch is focused on country intelligence (economic and political).

Collectively CSI develops our intelligence and insights to inform EDC's decision-makers and Canadian exporters and investors.

Internally, CSI provides country and sector insights that helps EDC make informed decisions when offering financial solutions in support of Canadian exporters and investors.

Externally, CSI provides insight to Canadian companies through a variety of knowledge products, meetings with partners and customers and through other interactions such as speaking engagements, webinars, and other engagements.

CSI develops and deploys country and sector intelligence through the following key functions:

  • Production of sector monitoring, forecasts, and insights
  • Production of several of EDC's key products including our Sectors in Focus, Global Export Forecast, Country Risk Quarterly, Global Economic Outlook and others.
  • Assignment of country risk ratings for over 200 markets.
  • Delivery of over 300 customer interactions annually. These include speeches, webinars, and specific research.
  • Application of this market intelligence insight to the assessment of relevant risks and opportunities on hundreds of financial transactions that EDC is supporting per year.
  • Development of models (aligned with existing and new regulatory requirements) to produce country risk ratings for the main lines of business at EDC (e.g., Financing, Insurance, etc).


The CSI team is constantly seeking ways to innovate the way in which we assess and share our market intelligence insights.

As a result, we're actively working on new products (like regional outlooks, sector briefings) and key initiatives related to writing and presentation of data, analytics, big data, modeling, and structured analytical techniques.

This position reports to the Director, Country and Sector Intelligence (CSI).


Discipline Summary

  • Develops, analyzes and models operational, economic and political data.
  • Defines problems, collects data, applies advanced economic or political, analysis and concepts and research skills, establishes facts, and draws valid conclusions.
  • Evaluates the potential impact of international and market changes, and reports on economic or political forecasts that affect the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitors and reports on political, economic, and business conditions in assigned sectors and industries.
  • Analyses and forecasts economic, political and financial trends relevant to the sector;
  • Communicates outlooks, forecast, risks, technical and/or business information so that it is understood by individuals with diverse capabilities and interests.
  • Works closely with country intelligence analysts and others across the Economics group to develop detailed sector outlook.
  • Conducts industry risk assessment in direct support of EDC financial transactions.
  • Develop network of contacts related to their sectors of focus;
  • Provides research support and assists in the development of additional outlets for sector intelligence.

Screening Criteria

  • Completed a master's degree in economics, Political Science, International Relations, or in a related field;
  • Minimum 5 years of workrelated experience in sector analysis, economic forecasting, or related experience.
  • Working knowledge of sector and industry forecasting principles and practices.
