The Academic Support Officer plays an essential role that is critical to program sustainability and student success. The Academic Support Officer will support the academic department with various administrative task relating to the day-to-day academic operations.


Working Conditions


This Academic Support Officer will be expected to work on campus Monday to Thursday from 4 pm to 8 pm and on Friday from 8 am to 12 pm.


Responsibilities

  • Maintain records and tracking sheets for Academic Progression
  • Track and advise students who are outside of their standard program progression to provide support on enrolment options and leaves of absence and confirm program completion requirements of graduating students
  • Monitoring students' attendance and notifications of absence, following the specific attendance policy. Taking action where appropriate and communicating any issues arising to the Student Success Manager
  • Assisting with the arrangement of any retakes
  • Collating all assessment grades and final transcripts ensuring they are distributed in a timely manner.
  • Ensure that program courses are scheduled in a way that provides students with efficient schedules while allowing for effective learning and course delivery
  • Liaise with student services for routine monitoring of attendance, student integration, student progression, disciplinary matters and provide strategies for problem solving.
  • Oversee student registration records and aligning with course timetable.
  • Oversee and execute inductionday timetables and presentations.
  • Innovate, develop and deliver effective tools and techniques to enhance the existing learning environment.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, orientations, graduation exercises, and other functions as directed
  • Ensure all educational activity is conducted legally and ethically.
  • Participate in professional development activities and programs as required by accreditation/ regulatory agencies.
  • Perform other administrative duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position Requirements

Education and Experience

  • A Post Secondary Diploma in an appropriate discipline
  • Minimum of 12 years of experience at an administrator's level at a Post-Secondary Institution.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Dynamic individual with knowledge of creating positive learning experiences for adult learners.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience of dealing with international student needs and issues
  • Ability to communicate complex information to a range of diverse students
  • Experience in curriculum and program development is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team member.
  • Strong analytic skills, with experience using Excel and other software a definite asset.
  • Excellent problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
