Your opportunity:


The Experiential Education Unit (EEU) in the Office of the Vice-Principal Academic and Dean (OVPAD), UTM, aims to enrich the undergraduate education experience by promoting and nurturing unique opportunities and approaches to learning both within and outside of the classroom.


General areas of responsibilities of the OVPAD include:

academic programs, academic HR; academic policy and planning; academic experience; academic integrity; academic appeals; experiential education; community engagement; teaching and learning support; strategic leadership; divisional research and data analysis; graduate affairs; tri-campus affairs; and more.


The Community Engagement Officer will report to the Manager, Community Engagement & Special Projects, and work closely with the Director, Experiential Education & Community Engagement, the Vice-Dean, Academic Experience, and stakeholders in various academic units.

You will work as part of a team to develop relationships with partners within and outside the university, as well as external organizations within our local and international communities.


Your responsibilities will include:


  • Developing and implementing community engagement strategies and plans
  • Conducting detailed labour market analysis to inform program and partnership development
  • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
  • Planning and implementing components of curricular and/or cocurricular programs and activities
  • Developing outreach strategies that promote programs to students and the broader community
  • Updating and maintaining database records
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars
  • Assigning and checking the work of workstudy students

Essential Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four years experience working in a University environment in an area of experiential education and/or community engagement.
  • Experience in academic advising, and providing guidance to students.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the University of Toronto's academic policies and procedures; with experience advising faculty, staff, and students on those policies.
  • Experience working with database management systems and student information systems (i.e. ROSI).
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent organizational and professional relationshipbuilding skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines and priorities, and appreciate and interact well with diverse personalities and cultural backgrounds.
