    Description

    Duties:

    Vancouver Island University's Education Assistant and Community Support Program is now accepting applications for an instructor to teach EACS 150 , an introduction to the basic concepts of health and wellness for supporting people with disabilities across the lifespan as well as strategies for support workers' health and wellness. Topics include nutrition, hygiene, medication dispensing, seizures, allergies, diabetes, exposure to physical care supports, and developing strategies for maintaining own wellness.

    Faculty are responsible for preparing and delivering classes, designing and grading student assignments and tests, and facilitating student integration of theory and practice. Faculty will also participate in program and faculty meetings, liaise with support staff, other staff and faculty. Vancouver Island University places an emphasis on teaching excellence and also encourages scholarly activity and community involvement.

    Successful candidates will be responsive to diverse cultural and academic backgrounds and learning styles.

    Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through scholarship and institutional service. Successful candidates will participate in a wide range of activities outside the classroom, including student support; institutional, faculty and departmental committee meetings and other initiatives; and professional activities in keeping with their disciplines in and outside the institution.

    Required Qualifications:

    A degree in a health care field such as nursing or other allied health care discipline (eg. Physiotherapy or occupational therapy) or a Master's degree in human services (eg. Social work or educational psychology). Experience in supporting persons with disabilities with complex health care needs. Degrees must be from an appropriately accredited institution. Nurses must possess CRNBC registration and be in good standing. Must be flexible and able to relate to a diverse student population. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to teaching, learning and student success through ongoing professional training, subject currency and institutional service.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Adult education experience and demonstrated teaching effectiveness or a combination of directly related education and experience.
    • Demonstrated background working with populations that have disabilities across the lifespan.
