Sinai Health is looking for an adept and trusted nursing leader who is aligned to our purpose to join our team as the Patient Care Manager (PCM) for 11 South.

This role reports to the Senior Clinical Program Director for Surgical Services.

We are currently seeking a PCM who will be responsible for managing the Orthopaedic Trauma and Inpatient Oncology Unit.

As a member of the leadership team, the PCM is responsible for the delivery of safe, high quality patient care, fiscal management, human resource management, staff development and advancing professional practice.

As a dynamic leader, you are committed to a philosophy of patient and family centered care and inter-professional collaborative practice.

You have the capacity to deliver a high level of patient care and achieve departmental outcomes that are aligned with the Surgical Services program and the Hospital's strategic objectives.

You do so by establishing productive relationships with patients, families, the inter-professional team, and organizational and community partners.

Responsibility at the unit level includes:

  • Maintaining standards of nursing practice and management of patient care by creating an environment conducive to staff development and excellence in nursing practice
  • Interpreting and fostering the philosophy, goals and standards of the Department of Nursing
  • Establishing unit goals and objectives that are consistent with the delivery of safe, high quality patient care
  • Take a lead role in creating a culture of safety, risk mitigation, quality, and service at the unit level and across the portfolio, to improve practices and service delivery
  • Participating in the programmatic development of the clinical area
  • Responsible for financial management through effective budgetary planning, monitoring, controlling and operations at the unit level
  • Facilitating and providing leadership for resource utilization at the unit and programmatic level
  • Providing leadership in fostering and promoting a collaborative practice environment that is based on mutual respect among all team members
  • Leading, monitoring and evaluating continuous quality improvement and program development initiatives that support departmental goals aligned with the Hospital's strategic direction
  • Developing, leading and managing program improvement initiatives based on quality data monitoring and utilizing appropriate quality improvement processes
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a valid and reliable workload measurement tool for assigned clinical areas
  • Encouraging staff participation in quality improvement activities for the unit and preparing quality improvement reports
  • Supporting the Hospital's strong academic mandate for ongoing staff development and training of students from all healthcare disciplines
  • Recruiting, developing and managing staff; completing regular employee performance appraisals and supporting the development of learning plans
  • Accountable for the quality of care/service and patient safety at the unit level
  • Promoting and maintaining a safe patient care and work environment by assessing for and managing actual and potential risks. This also includes engaging in safety audits, promoting staff accountability in workplace safety, and ensuring that adequate structures and processes are in place such as staffing, equipment, supplies, physical space, policies and procedures
  • Establishing, promoting and maintaining good public relations through effective communication within the organization
  • Fostering effective labour relations through knowledgeable interpretation and implementation of collective agreements
  • Working with other members of the nursing leadership team to support the implementation of evidence based practice and ensuring the dissemination of research findings to inform nursing practice and improve patient outcomes
  • Participating as a member/leader of departmental and corporate committees and teams
  • Communicating effectively using appropriate lines within the organization
  • Responding as PCM on call as needed
  • Participating in the strategic planning process to drive organizational change and optimization of hum
