Job Description:


One temporary part-time position to coordinate CLST Introduction to Greek Civilization and teach the history, culture, and art history sections of the course.


This introductory class introduces students to a variety of approaches in studying the ancient Greek world and encourages them to take more classes in the program or to consider a major in Classical Studies or a related field.

As such, applicants should not only be thoroughly versed in all aspects of the ancient Greek world, but demonstrate a high level of energy and enthusiasm, be prepared to attend classes in the literature and myth sections, and to promote the Classical Studies program to the class.

Applicants should also be prepared to incorporate elements of Classical reception and ensure students see connections between all sections of the class, including those taught by other faculty.


Coordination responsibilities include:

invigilating all exams, coordinating the other team members and sections of the class (literature and mythology), attending all classes, holding weekly office hours, calculating and entering grades, maintaining online resources, preparing syllabus and handouts, running team meetings for the class, attending program meetings, and working with the Classical Studies program coordinator to organize and attend the CLST 1105 lecture series to be held as a part of the class (lectures are given on 3 Tuesday evenings during the semester; dates are chosen by the CLST 1110 teaching team).


Required Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated excellence in postsecondary teaching experience related to the course content.
  • Available to teach inperson, MW 14:30 to 16:20.
  • A successful history of teaching in a team environment is an asset.

FTE:
1/4 full time (1 section)

Interviews will be held in-person the week of June 19, 2023.

Salary Range:
Salary placement is on Langara instructors' salary scale in accordance with qualifications and experience.
