SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
The Food Services Supervisor (FSS) oversees the overall functioning of the Dietary Team which includes all aspects surrounding meals and nourishments.
The FSS is a member of the leadership team and supports endeavors within Home by collaborating with other teams, regional resources and support Extendicare programs and practices.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Certificate in a recognized food service supervision program, and certificate in institutional housekeeping/laundry services is required. Current membership or eligible for membership in the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.).
Must be knowledgeable in principles and philosophy of long-term care with at least 5 years of supervision experience. Active knowledge of Manitoba Health Standards, Accreditation, resident centered philosophies is required.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills that develop a positive work and living environment;
Understanding of change management, organizational development with proven success;
Solid understanding of Quality Improvement and Assurance programs
Mentally and physically able to perform duties as outlined which includes ability to maintain regular attendance in addition to work in a very dynamic environment.
Ability to generate sound, creative solutions and new approaches to daily challenges and which maximize the short and long-term goals of the facility.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the activities of the Dietary team which includes: monitoring workflow, evaluates performance and production, and makes changes as necessary to improve quality, coordinates activities with other teams.
Selects, supervise, motivates department team members in addition to monitors and evaluates performance of direct reports Maintains established department plans, policies and procedures regarding such things as quality assurance, infection control, fire, occupational health and safety and ensures compliance by employees.
Participates in Interdisciplinary Team Conferences (I.D.T.C.) to assess needs of the resident and monitor changing needs including dietary, laundry and housekeeping issues.
Consults with Consultants for assistance as required.Schedules and supervises housekeeping and laundry functions and activities; establishes routines and workflow patterns in cooperation with other teams Liaises and consults with government officials/consultants and professionals in relation to resident care needs and department activities.
Develops action plan(s) and provides written responses to any government inspections, Accreditation survey reports, Extendicare Regional Consultant's report, etc. Participates in budget preparation and is accountable for maintaining departmental budgets. Performs all duties in accordance with the written policies and procedures of Extendicare, the facility and the related manual(s).Participates in the evaluation of care and/or service provided by the Support Services Department by developing implementing and evaluating activities under the Quality Assurance Program, and prepares statistical analyses as required.
Follows manufacturers' instructions in the operation and use of all equipment and chemicals. Alert to potential health and safety hazards and takes appropriate action. Reports unsafe and hazardous working conditions and any equipment malfunctions to the Maintenance Department or Administration. Knowledgeable of facility procedures for fire and environmental safety. Performs duties in accordance with prescribed sanitation and infection control procedures. Respects residents' rights to dignity and privacy and performs duties in a courteous and respectful manner. Adheres to "Standards of Employee Conduct", "Commitment to Residents", "Resident's Bill of Rights" and "Extendicare Quality Framework" and Mission, Vision and ValuesWorks closely and cooperates with other staff and residents. Maintains good working relationships with other departments. Ensures food is prepared and served in accordance with legislation and corporate guidelines including quality monitoring (temperature, taste, etc.).
In cooperation with the Residents' Council and Family Advisory Board, implements and posts residents' regular and therapeutic cyclical menus as planned by Clinical Dietitian.
Orders and receives food and general department supplies within budgetary constraints and monitors inventory. Organizes meal service to staff and visitors as required Performs other duties as requiredTime Type:
