Duties:


The HSMBC Public Relations and Communications Officer will work with the External Relations team in the Southwestern Ontario Field Unit as part of the Parks Canada Agency.

The Officer will lead the communication and administration of the national designation program within the Southwestern Ontario region. This position will be hybrid.


Job duties overview:

  • Create and strengthen relationships with key stakeholders in Southwestern Ontario.
  • Support national designation processes, events, liaison, promotion, and products through program administration, planning, and communications.
  • Monitor, manage, and advise on the national plaque program and federal designations in Southwestern Ontario.
  • Chair the HSMBC committee in the Southwestern Ontario Field Unit.
  • Work closely with key stakeholders, external relations team members, national office teams, and other levels of government, to coordinate and amplify engagement and communications efforts on historic designations.
  • Work collaboratively with Parks Canada colleagues across the field unit.

Graduation with a degree from a recognized college or university with specialization in communications, history, public relations, political studies or other discipline relevant to the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience.

Experience criteria:

  • Experience collaborating with communities, partners, and stakeholders to attain mutually beneficial objectives.
  • Experience writing and revising communication products, such as media documents, speeches, interpretation content, web content, background material, etc.
  • Experience providing information on sensitive issues, strategic advice, and/or operational advice to management.
  • Experience planning, organizing, coordinating, and supporting special events, such as ceremonies.
  • Experience working in history and/or culturebased industries or organizations.
