Human Resources Generalist

Location:
Edmonton, AB


Contract: 15 Months (Maternity Leave)

Job Overview and Responsibilities:

This position supports Bureau Veritas' Petroleum line of business across Canada.

Primary responsibilities include the following (but are not limited to):

  • To provide professional Human Resources advice to a dedicated client group within the operation
  • Provide Excellent Recruitment services/guidance to management and staff
  • To act as liaison between staff and management for issues regarding employee relations, recruitment, classification and compensation
  • Develop and nurture ongoing relationship with existing customers. Work to anticipate their needs and meet and exceed their expectations
  • To act as "communication champion" to ensure that all staff are kept informed of new information
  • To develop and maintain trust with employees by ensuring that all information deemed confidential remains so
  • To act as liaison between employees and supervisors/managers in dealing with work or personal resolution of issues
  • To increase the profile and visibility of Human Resources and as a part of the Corporate Team
  • To act as a resource for others sections of the company e.g. Finance, IT, etc.
  • Ensure adherence to Bureau Veritas' policies
  • Ad hoc projects and duties as required

Recruitment

  • Obtains appropriate approvals for all recruitment
  • Prepares and posts internal/external job advertisements
  • Screens evaluates and recommends applicants for interviews
  • Partners with Management in interviews as required and in identifying and creating job related interview questions
  • Checks applicant references and provides feedback to hiring managers
  • Drafts offer letters
  • Develops and maintains good relationships with universities, employment agencies and other recruitment resources
  • Conducts all new employee orientations
  • Conducts exit interviews

Compensation and Benefits

  • Administers and explains benefits to employees, serving as a liaison between insurance carriers and employees
  • Assists with compensation and classification inquiries, as appropriate
  • Liaise with payroll for all employee inquiries, including ezLabor
  • Coordinates and facilitates the short term disability and long term disability claims management process in collaboration with our third party provider and management, as required

Is there a mutual fit? You ideally have:

  • Human Resources Certificate or equivalent education
  • CHRP designation achieved or in progress
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in direct provision of Human Resources services
  • Knowledge of Provincial and Federal Legislation
  • Strong organizational, analytical, research and mediation skills
  • Leadership skill at the intermediate level: coaching, training, mentoring
  • Open communication skills (written, oral presentation)
  • Change management skills
  • HRIS capabilities (data entry & report production)
  • Computer skills in Microsoft Office & Internet research ability
