    Description

    The Licensed Practical Nurse - Communicable Disease (LPN-CD) reports directly to the Regional Manager of Primary Care, in Inuvik. The LPN-CD will be based in Inuvik and provide culturally sensitive care to people in the remote communities of the Beaufort Delta Region – including Inuvik, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour and Ulukhaktok.

    The position, along with the Regional Public Health Nurse, will be shared among the communities by providing support to the health centers with various Public Health Programs.

    This position can require travel between Inuvik, Paulatuk, Sachs Harbour, and Ulukhaktok. This may involve travel by road and/or small aircraft in a variety of weather conditions. Working in outdoor winter conditions will be required to load and unload equipment. Hotel accommodations are not available in all locations, so travel may include sleeping in temporary accommodation locations. Duty travel rates apply as per the collective agreement.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and ability to apply nursing practices and processes within the LPN scope of practice.
  • Ability to assess and facilitate learning needs of the client as pertaining to applicable vaccinations, communicable diseases, treatments and/or prevention and health protection.
  • Ability to provide vaccinations according to the Northwest Territories Immunization Schedule and the Canadian Immunization Schedule and successful completion of the Education Program for Immunization Competencies (EPIC)
  • Ability to commit to actively upholding and consistently practicing personal diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness, as well as safety and sensitivity approaches in the workplace.
  • Organizational capacity to plan, implement and evaluate multiple assessments, projects and meet deadlines at the individual, group, and community levels.
  • Interpersonal skills with ability to communicate with a wide variety of people including indigent peoples; peoples of different cultures and backgrounds; medical and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Typically, the above qualifications would be attained by:

    Recognized Licensed Practical Nurse program, plus two (2) years of experience within a full scope of practice including medication and vaccination administration.

    Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

    Salary Information

    The salary range for this position is from $40.91 per hour to $48.86 per hour (approximately $79,775 - $95,277) plus an annual Northern Allowance of $14,661.
