PWO Canada is a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier for auto manufacturers globally. We are one of five subsidiaries in the PWO AG Group, manufacturing lightweight metal components for the automotive industry.


PURPOSE OF POSITION


The position of Tooling Supervisor is primarily responsible for the management and supervision of both the Machining and Tooling group to ensure that all tooling are available and maintained in good working order to support production requirements.


NATURE AND SCOPE OF POSITION


The Tooling Supervisor is responsible for directing, coordinating and supervising all activities for the department and staff including Tool and Die Makers, Machinists, apprentices, and Team Leaders.

The Tooling Supervisor is responsible for all tooling activities on all shifts.

The incumbent responds to any problems employees have, and if he/she cannot solve the problem, he/she escalates the issue up the managerial chain.

He/she is responsible for the quality and quantity of work coming out of the Machine and Tooling group. Internal contacts include Production, Maintenance, Tooling Engineering, Logistics, Shipping and Quality Assurance.

The position is responsible for directing the work of others with supervisory responsibilities. Decisions made by this position impact the department in the short and long-term.


QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Skills:

The incumbent must have an excellent knowledge of tool and die, and some knowledge of stamping presses, both progressive and automatic transfer, tooling scheduling, occupational health and safety and quality standards (IATF 16949 and ISO9001) are required, and must be able to plan manpower requirements daily.

Strong written and oral communication skills and proficiency with MS Office are required for normal business/technical communication and to provide instruction and feedback to tooling staff and to manager.

Flexibility to manage all shifts and weekend work is required.


Communication Skills:
Very good communication skills, ability to work well with and lead activities of the department.

The supervisor must have strong leadership skills for team building, problem solving and must be able to interact professionally with other departments in order to achieve goals and meet the needs of the customer and the company.


Nature and Length of Experience:
At least five years of experience beyond certification in a similar industry.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensures that tools are running smoothly by delegating tooling assignments to staff. Assists with setups and programming equipment as required. Assists with the solving of any problems that arise on a day to day basis. This includes the manpower support of troubleshooting and minor repairing of dies, transfer systems, and other equipment.
  • Performs administrative duties such as preparing updates for the daily scheduling meeting, daily manpower planning, time and attendance corrections, approving overtime and signing clock corrections, proof reading and signing set up sheets. Allocate resources to prepares paperwork, fixtures, information, etc. for upcoming setups as required. Plans vacation time for the department.
  • Plan and coordinate with HR training deficiencies or additional training requirements within department.
  • Informs Logistics if parts will not be produced in time to meet the production schedule.
  • Informs Production and General Maintenance if they are required for trouble shooting, equipment or machine repair.
  • Supervises and coach employees by correcting behaviors regarding the operation of tools, equipment, machinery, and/or time management, health and safety, etc. Provides ongoing progressive discipline as required. Recommends hiring and terminations to the Manager of the Department.
  • Compliance to all company policies and procedures.
  • Manages the costs and expenses within the department to ensure that KPIs are on track and help support and improve on department KPIs.
  • Support other departments with problem solving and CIP projects. Involvement in process development with planners and engineering
  • Follow all operation procedures, company policies and safety requirements. Working safely and keeping a safe working area for all employees. Reporting all unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Support in the schedules and coordinates outsourced PM for Tooling equipment at established intervals throughout each year.
  • Respects and guards confidential information between PWO Canada and its customers.
  • Performs annual performance reviews for members of the both Machining and Tooling group.
  • Assists manager in creating the business plan for the Machining and Tooling Group (Staffing and investment).
  • Follows, performs and take leadership on the processes and instructions as outlined in the Process House applicable to the department. Following and performing the instructions as listed in the Work Area Reference Manual(s) applicable to the department.
