The Rexdale Community Health Centre (RCHC) is a multi-service centre providing primary health care, health promotion and community support services, including settlement and community development activities for families, children, youth, adults and seniors of diverse backgrounds.


Primary Function:

The primary goal of STEP+ Program Coordinator is to provides supports and assist in addressing the academic disparities in the Kingsview Village-The Westway neighborhood by providing tutoring and academic supports, individual support, community engagement, and capacity building opportunities to enhance academic achievement and educational success and overall health and wellbeing of youth in the community.


Position Overview Working as part of the Youth and Family Services Team, and responsible to the Manager of Youth and Family Services, the STEP+ Program Coordinator is responsible to ensure the successful planning, implementation, evaluation and ongoing development of academic support programming and related individual supports provided to youth participating in STEP+.

The position will supervise the work of all Program Assistant Workers and Youth Program Support Workers as well as over see the management and support of placement students and volunteers.

This position works with other member of the Youth and Family Services team to develop partnerships and networks both inside and outside the community that support participating students and the vision of STEP+


Key Responsibilities

STAFF TEAM MAINTENANCE:


  • Participate in the successful recruitment, retention, training, and support of Program Assistant Worker, Site Support, volunteers, partner staff and placement students.
  • Meet regularly with the Program Assistant Workers and Program Support Workers staff providing both formal and informal supervision and support as well as conduct performance appraisals.
  • Facilitate staff team decisionmaking and provide support and direction to the Program Assistants, Site staff, volunteers and students.
  • Facilitate decision and resolution of problem/issues/concern within staff team.

ADMINISTRATION:


  • Organizes registration, student and parent orientations and other special initiatives such as parent information sessions and workshops.
  • Ensure that systems are in place to facilitate communication with students, parents/guardians, school staff, program staff and volunteers. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of these systems and make changes as required.
  • Provide the Program Manager with regular reports regarding the strengths and challenges faced by program participants and with the strategies being used to address these challenges.
  • Identify gaps in service delivery and develop strategies to address these gaps, through program development, partnerships, advocacy or external resources.
  • Develop and implement strategies to strengthen parent involvement in youth's development.
  • Work with the Program Manager to ensure that information needed for program monitoring, evaluation and improvement is available and current, including collection of accurate and timely data on student attendance, grades and program placement.

PROGRAM PLANNING and IMPLEMENTATION

  • Initiate appropriate liaison with program partners and develop new program partnerships to provide the necessary academic and social supports to program participants.
  • Act as a liaison with school or school board personnel, students, parents or referral agencies to assist staff in addressing youth needs and challenges.
  • Secure the necessary resources for use in program.
  • Budget for site resources and maintain routines on resource use.
  • Develop and implement specific processes for the ongoing support and motivation of volunteers and support staff necessary to ensure the effectiveness of these components in meeting the needs of participants.
  • Secure the appropriate space and the possible sites for regular programming.
  • Develop and monitor all routines on site set up, entry, exit, safety and security at each program site.
  • Oversee partnership supports and relations with other agencies related to youth programming especially for referrals, mentoring and other supports for part time employment and community involvement hours.
  • Support in the successful planning, implementation and evaluation for this project.
  • Recruit, coordinate and schedule the various community staff and partners staff contributions to STEP+.
  • Engage with individuals, community groups and partners through a range of methods to plan for and implement strategies to address gaps in student achievement.
  • Demonstrate antiracist / antioppressive and equitable practice during all interactions.
  • Adhere to the Centre's policies and procedures, including confidentiality, AODA, and health and safety policies.
