This management position is part of the team responsible for all Fleet & Delivery operations (last-mile home delivery to our customers as well as mid-mile freight transfers to our store locations) within the Mississauga Distribution Centre (DC) area of operations, which includes all of Ontario.

The incumbent is also responsible to assist in the direct supervision of drivers, helpers, supervisors and fleet support staff working out of the Mississauga DC.

This position provides service to internal and external customers by ensuring safe, on-time deliveries and must ensure that equipment and drivers are in compliance with company and provincial operational standards as well as safety regulations.

This individual will be accountable for the financial and operational performance of the Fleet & Delivery department in Ontario, including staffing, vehicle operations and common carrier contractors, as well as for complying with all the internal control requirements and best practices established by the company.


Responsibilities:


  • Recruit, hire & train fleet & delivery staff on an ongoing basis to develop the best possible team, setting a highstandard for service, performance & safety.
  • Maintain excellent customer and store service by optimizing internal fleet & delivery capacity and external common carriers throughout the region while keeping costs in check within budgets.
  • Recommend process improvements and/or changes in order to improve or increase service levels while optimizing operational costs & efficiencies.
  • Conduct annual performance appraisals of all fleet and delivery team members; manage schedules, attendance, vacation & timeoff planning; manage customer property & product damage claims; payroll & payables review, audit & approval;
  • Management of all fleet & service KPI's as established by the company.
  • Monthly P&L review and analysis. Must obtain knowledge of realtime expense trending in order to react as quickly as possible to all issues causing adverse variances from budgeted expenses.
  • Final accountability on meeting annual budgeted targets, including expense reporting.
  • Ensure maximum utilization of all regional vehicles & equipment and fleet & delivery team members.
  • Negotiate, review, audit & manage all common carrier agreements within company guidelines.
  • Must have good knowledge of all provincial transportation & safety regulations, ensure adequate maintenance of the fleet; minimize use of rental equipment &/or external carriers where possible.
  • Ensure proper training, compliance & followup to all company & provincial health & safety regulations as well as operational standards.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years experience in an operations, preferably transportation or logistics, environment in a "handson" managerial or supervisory role
  • Proven experience supervising, motivating & mentoring a large team of 50+ team members
  • Experience with computerized routing & dispatch systems is an asset
  • Experience in developing budgets and managing multiple financial statements.
  • Extensive working knowledge of delivery and transportation operations
  • Financial acumen including analytical and forecasting skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize in a constantly changing retail environment.
  • Must have strong working knowledge of MS Office programs
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other departments to better serve customers.
  • Ability to prepare & execute a succession plan and delegate work as required
