Yaletown House is a non profit care facility for seniors with complex care needs and is located in Vancouver, BC.

We provide quality health care and services to 127 senior residents in a safe, supportive and home like environment.


Under the direction of the Director Facilities and Support Services, performs preventative maintenance, demand maintenance, project work and repair duties related to the building, grounds, and equipment in compliance with applicable codes and regulations.

Monitors maintenance contract work to ensure adherence to care home requirements and reports any concerns. Processes purchases and receives supplies for the maintenance department.

Supervises designated maintenance and/or other designated staff (1 to 2 workers) by scheduling and coordinating work assignments and determining related training and orientation requirements.

Carries out a variety of clerical tasks and provides operational assistance to the maintenance and support service departments.


The Maintenance Supervisor is an integral member of the Yaletown House team and is required to have a commitment to the vision, mission and values of Yaletown House while ensuring the safety for residents and staff.

In performing duties, the Maintenance Supervisor will follow Yaletown House's policies and procedures ensuring the provision of _Resident and Family Centred Care _(RFCC) while safeguarding staff and residents.

This position requires teamwork, communication and cooperation.

It is the expectation that the individual in this position contributes to a positive, safe working environment, takes instruction well and cooperates with the Support Service Team and co-workers.

This person must manage their time well and participate in continuous quality improvement of services provided. Quality and safety are inherent aspects of this position.


Education, Training & Experience
Grade 10 plus 3 years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Supervises designated maintenance and/or other designated staff by performing duties such as coordinating and monitoring work assignments, evaluating employee performance and determining related training and orientation requirements.
  • Performs preventative maintenance and demand maintenance, as scheduled under the computerized maintenance management software (CMMS), on building systems and equipment; such as: washers, dryers, floor machines, wheelchairs, tubs, toasters, food mixers and blenders. Maintenance includes disassembling equipment, cleaning, lubricating, replacing parts, changing filters, seals and bearings, topping up battery and other fluids and reassembles as required. Reports all malfunctions and problems to the Director. Contacts vendors when service is required.
  • Conducts regular inspections and testing (daily, weekly, monthly) of building systems and equipment as scheduled under the computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) and in accordance with equipment manuals, Life Safety Systems Compliance Testing as per NFPA Standards and regulatory standards. Documents all observations for record keeping. Reports malfunctions and problems to Director. Contacts vendor when service is required.
  • Conducts the daily, weekly, and monthly generator inspections and tests and documents all observations for record keeping.
  • Monitors and adjusts the building's air temperature to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Performs service and repairs as required for minor plumbing including, but not limited to: removes, cleans, replaces and reconnects plumbing fixtures such as sinks and toilets; changes washers and flush tank interiors; repairs water supply lines and waste lines; and unplugs all plumbing stoppages in the building.
  • Monitors the building's hot water temperature by conducting readings to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Performs minor electrical repairs, such as: replaces light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.
  • Checks the condition of electrical devices and equipment to ensure all equipment is CSA Approved and does not have damaged cords or other malfunctions. If any defects are detected the electrical device or equipment is removed or tagged out of service.
  • In charge of the general maintenance function by performing a variety of duties, such as: coordinates the collection of maintenance work orders required for interior and exterior areas submitted by staff and residents; sorts, assigns or performs work required in the work orders with the priority ranking set for the department.
