Assessment accommodation

  • Be recognized as having fulltime PhD student status by a Canadian postsecondary academic institution at which you are currently enrolled. (Proof will be required).
  • Be the minimum age to work in the province or territory where the job is located.

Duties:


  • The student is expected to contribute to research that will help to quantifying carbon impacts of landuse change and management of salt water ecosystems in Canada. Duties and responsibilities will include compiling existing data and knowledge, collecting new field data, processing samples, analysing results, and preparing manuscripts.
  • Limited travel may be involved.
  • The project will open opportunities for student to contribute to greenhouse monitoring and reporting, work with a team of experts in geosciences, land use change and agroforestry.

Work environment:

The student will work with the pollutant, inventory and reporting division of Environment and Climate Change Canada to support critical research on greenhouse gas emissions and removals as a result of management and land-use change of coastal wetlands.

Education:


The student must be currently enrolled or able to enroll in a PhD program with specialization in saltwater ecosystems (salt marshes) and coastal wetlands in the Department of geography or the department of Environmental Sciences at Saint Mary's University by 1st December, 2023.

Degree equivalency


EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience* in planning field data collection seasons, use of soil greenhouse gas monitoring devices (greenhouse gas autochambers or gas analyzer) required.
  • Experience* in R and modeling required.
  • Experience* in carbon storage dynamics.
  • Experience* with blue carbon and greenhouse gas emissions in salt marshes is required.
  • Experience* modeling Nitrous oxide (N2O) in restored salt marches is considered an asset.
  • In the context of student recruitment in the Federal Public Service, the experience can be acquired through the studies, work experience, or volunteer activities.
