The salary range for this position is:

Recruitment range:
$68,897- $75,964
starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.


Performance range:
starting salary to max of $89,609
is available through annual performance increases.

  • Job SummaryThe Department of Physics & Astronomy is a large Science department with 26 faculty members, 18 staff members (CUPE 951 and PEA), over 100 graduate students, 25 researchers, and 58 Adjuncts in affiliated institutions such as the BC Cancer Clinic, Vancouver Island; the Herzberg Institute, and TRIUMF.

Mandate:
The Administrative Officer (AO) is responsible for the administrative, financial and management functions of the division. This position works closely with the Chair of Physics & Astronomy.

This role works collaboratively with the staff and other segments of the university community as well as with other academic institutions and the general public.


Objectives:

  • Oversees and manages course delivery within department
  • Supervision of administrative staff including recruiting, performance development, coaching, and workload management.
  • Manage budgets, forecast and maintain budgetary controls while conducting expenditure analyses.
  • Act as a resource to Chair and other departments to ensure safety and security policies and procedures are in place
  • Job RequirementsThis position requires a bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline plus 3 years of administrative and supervisory experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to promote effective working relationships with faculty and staff and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with tact and diplomacy is essential. Knowledge and experience in a university setting would be considered an asset.
