BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE REPORTING ANALYST

CONTRIBUTING TO THE CMPA


The Research, Analytics and Privacy group captures and manages corporate and medico-legal data, generates insights and translates knowledge to inform data-driven business decisions and evidence-informed safe medical care products.

This group also leads support for the CMPA on privacy matters, which includes maintaining the privacy framework, implementing, and maintaining the corporate privacy plan.

This group contributes to the key strategic objective of advancing safe medical care, in collaboration with other internal departments and stakeholders, by leveraging our knowledge and expertise to identify member needs, better understand their medico-legal risks and create corporate and safe medical care analytic and knowledge translation products.


The Data and Business Intelligence (BI) team oversees all infrastructure that supports the data analysis and data management of CMPA business information and enables data governance teams that are federated across the CMPA.

BI administers and maintains analytical systems and maintains an enterprise data warehouse that provides historical, current, as well as predictive views of business operations.

The team services all internal users with traditional report development and distribution, complex custom ad-hoc information requests, and supports the needs of other analytics teams by providing and regularly updating data subsets.


POSITION OVERVIEW

POSITION ACTIVITIES

  • Report Development_
  • Works with internal clients to understand their reporting requirements and business questions
  • Assists users in creating their own reports, dashboards, and adhoc data extractions
  • Develops corporate and operational reports and dashboards and detailed functional specifications
  • Collaborates with others in Data and Business Intelligence to ensure clients' requirements are met through report design
  • Writes SQL scripts to extract data in support of report development and data analysis
  • Supports the BI Solutions Analysts with data modelling activities
  • Creates and maintains comprehensive user documentation, tutorials, reports, and other information
  • Supports the implementation of BI Tools and systems so as to best meet delivery of services to clients
  • Works with business representatives to develop testing strategies and plans, as well as the execution of test plans

  • Provides user training on systems and reporting capabilities
  • Develops sections and/or provides input into the project plan and schedule throughout the life cycle of a project and when unforeseen issues arise
  • Remains vigilant of industry and technological changes to improve knowledge and working skills related to areas of expertise and new technologies
  • Assists other CMPA teams to ensure smooth and timely integration of new technologies
  • Facilitates and organizes meetings with clients as required
  • Performs gap analysis and data analysis as required
  • Troubleshoots and fixes reportingrelated issues as they arise
  • Performs performance tuning of reports
  • Maintains documentation and stored metadata
  • Maintains knowledge of CMPA business processes and business rules and industry best practices

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Fouryear Bachelor's Degree in computer science or a related field of study
  • Minimum four years of relevant experience developing reports directly supporting BI related projects or operations
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing methodologies
  • Previous IBM Analytics (Cognos) experience is preferred
  • Strong understanding of business processes (Finance, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), Risk Management, and Corporate Performance Measurement)
  • Experience interacting with all levels within an organization
  • Experience working in crossfunctional teams in a project based environment
  • Previous experience in business analyst or data analyst roles is an asset
  • Experience working with cloud based technologies; Workday and/or SugarCRM experience is an asset
  • Experience working with medicallegal data and/or financial reporting experience is an asset
  • Experience writing data definitions and maintaining metadata is an asset
  • Experience creating training guides and materials
  • Experience developing and implementing reporting strategies (dashboards, executive information systems, and reporting templates)
  • Experience with training and coaching

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Strong SQL coding skills are essential; Oracle, PL/SQL, and Unix scripting experience are considered an asset
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with clients to meet their needs
  • Ability to analyze and provide creative and innovative solutions to business problems
  • Ability to maintain high productivity amidst competing priorities and tight timelines
