Job Summary

If you answered yes to these questions, NAV CANADA is seeking an enthusiastic individual to join our Corporate Performance and Sustainability team.


As a Flight Performance Data Analyst you will be part of a diverse team of analysts who work on key initiatives focused on maximizing flight trajectory efficiencies and operational performance within Canada's Air Navigation System.

You will be responsible for conducting data analysis activities and fast-time simulations to deliver key performance metrics and critical insights which support technical recommendations for NAV CANADA's internal operations teams, airports, airlines, and other industry partners.


Job Description:


Key Accountabilities:

  • Interpret data and information pertaining to areas of operational performance, air traffic, safety and environment to compile analyses, reports, and presentations.
  • Research economic and global aviation trends that impact Canadian air traffic.
  • Analyze, interpret, evaluate and synthesize operational performance data with other datasets to prepare analysis that address specific areas of concern.
  • Produce analytics reports and information on key performance metrics with data obtained from internal and external sources to provide actionable insights.
  • Support analytical processes such as report automation, data preparation and processing methodologies to enhance the efficiency of current best practices.
  • Create interactive data visualizations and selfservice analytics reports that enable relevant stakeholders to easily retrieve data, grasp key findings and concepts.
  • Contribute to recommendations to senior management that influence decisions on strategic direction, aviation standards, policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Contribute to the preparation and peer review of final reports.
  • Participate in collaborative activities on data sharing and analytics projects with internal and external stakeholders.
Job Requirements


Education:


  • University Bachelor's Degree an asset in a field such as Computer Science, Data & Analytics, Data Science, Mathematics and Statistics or an acceptable combination of other relevant education, experience, and training.

Experience:


  • 58 years' of relevant work experience in using analytical tools to solve practical research problems; or any combination of education and experience which would provide an equivalent background.
  • Experience in quantitative and qualitative research, analyzing and synthesizing results and developing various means of communicating the process and meanings of outcomes.
  • Previous experience with a range of data and analytical concepts and methodologies, including:
  • Fast-time simulations / scenario analysis;
  • Data processing automation;
  • Designing datasets ;
  • Building data pipelines.
  • Experience communicating the outcomes of complex analyses to senior management via report writing and delivery of presentations.

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of the techniques and practices of data collection, manipulation, validation, and reporting as well as knowledge of desktop software and modeling tools.
  • Willingness to learn about the aviation industry and Canada's Air Navigation System.
  • Knowledge of reporting tools and presentation software (ex:, Excel, Power BI, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of data processing and programming languages (ex: R, SQL, R, Python).
  • Knowledge of interactive visualization tools an asset (ex: , Plotly, Vega, R Markdown)
  • Knowledge or willingness to learn aviation fasttime simulation software

Abilities:

  • Ability to join multiple data sets using various tooling, conduct rigorous analyses, and generate. actionable insights proactively and efficiently.
  • Ability to synthesize large amounts of data into information.
  • Ability to understand and follow data flow processes from multiple disparate systems.
  • Ability to identify complex problems, research and develop options and implement solutions.
  • Communication and data journalism skills that help communicate results of analysis via effective storytelling and interactive visualizations.
