We are hiring a Full Time Temporary Project Manager position working out of Edmonton, AB for up to 11 months.


The Project Manager is accountable for various aspects of project delivery for EPCOR Water and is expected to deliver multiple small to large (>$5 million) capital projects from inception to commissioning using sound engineering and project management principles and practices.

They are responsible for project performance in the areas of execution planning, resourcing planning, contract management and client communications, as well as internal and external reporting to ensure quality, costs and schedules are within parameters and health, safety and environmental requirements are met.


Day-to-day accountabilities include providing coordination and technical support for engineering and construction teams, and working with, and sourcing resources from, internal staff, external contractors, consultants, while managing expectations of stakeholders such as governmental agencies and departments, Indigenous groups, and property owners (where applicable) to ensure deliverables are met.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Developing and implementing deliverables for assigned projects.
  • Ensuring an appropriate understanding of the EPCOR Water, EPCOR Water Treatment Plants and the Water Plants Projects strategies to ensure ongoing effective positioning and appropriate relationships between other positions in the Projects department and throughout EPCOR Utilities Inc.
  • Providing input into the Water Plants strategic plans and directions. Assisting in identifying budget requirements for capital projects engineering and construction for longterm planning, regulatory submission planning and annual budget/ initiation cycles.
  • Preparing resource requirements and using best practices in project management to prepare execution strategies to deliver projects safely on time, on scope and on budget.
  • Accurately reporting project statuses, variances, and updating group dashboards and scheduling on a monthly basis.
  • Assisting with the development and execution of communication plans as required to successfully deliver projects. This may include newsletters, assisting at open houses, attending community workshops and meetings and participating in consultation activities with community groups, members of the public, institutions and Indigenous communities.
  • Providing for overall delivery of all scopes of work through to close out for projects assigned for EPCOR internal or external clients. Attending worksites to evaluate completion of work, schedule progression and adherence to project quality and safety standards. Demonstrating a high performance, high discipline, safe, accountable, focused, innovative and achievementoriented, easy to do business with, manner of working.
  • Supervising one or more team members as indirect reports if requested by Manager.
  • Assisting with coaching and mentoring less experienced Project Managers, Project Engineers, Engineering Co-Op students, etc.
  • Ensuring all projects are managed with safety being the number one priority; contributing to EPCOR's zeroinjury culture at all times and ensuring conformance to all relevant Occupational Health and Safety (HSE) legislation and EPCOR's HSE policies and procedures.
  • Setting up and managing subcontracts in support of the work, as required. Ensuring EPCOR contractor management and HSE policies and procedures are communicated, monitored, executed and supported through the planning and execution of projects.
  • Interfacing with client representatives, providing timely updates on construction progress and responding to client requests for changing work fronts or schedule escalations. Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders (Plant Engineering, Quality Assurance, Operations, Maintenance, Project Management Office and Supply Chain), and external stakeholders (contractors, consultants, suppliers and vendors, governmental agencies and landowners).
  • Generating accurate and timely invoicing for embedded services, with the support of Managers and team members.
What's required to be successful

  • Engineering degree from a recognized institution
  • P.Eng status in APEGA, or ability to attain
  • A minimum of 5 years progressively responsible experience in engineering design and construction project management
  • Must be able to deliver results; plan and organize work and people; develop schedules and budgets; and meet schedules, quality requirements, safety and contractor management requirements
  • Demonstrated ability to create, understand and manage complex budgets and resource balancing relative to this area of responsibility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project cost and schedule forecasting
  • Experience managing multiple small to large sized, moderately complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects highly desirable, with a leadership and decisionmaking capacity, overseeing project teams with some supervi
