This opportunity relates to the modernization of the heating and cooling energy distribution systems to over 80 buildings in the National Capital Region under the ESAP Project.

The project involves design and construction of four new central heating and cooling plants plus associated distribution piping networks over a period of five years, under a Joint Venture Partnership with another leading major Contractor.

Black and McDonald is responsible for the design and construction of the mechanical and electrical work across the project.

The Project Coordinator will be located at the project site office and will report to the Project Manager.

This role involves planning, organizing, and directing activities for a critical scope of work involving installation of process piping across the MacDonald-Cartier Bridge between Quebec and Ontario including extensive temporary and support work at the abutments and across the span itself.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with the consulting engineer on the project design.
  • Review drawings and specs for constructability.
  • Prepare detailed diagrams, plans, reports and presentations.
  • Work with consultants, contractors and vendors to prepare and submit shop drawings.
  • Assist with the identification and resolution of field technical issues.
  • Work with site teams and subcontractors to plan and execute construction activities.
  • Coordinate with Document Control to manage information systems, shop drawings and RFI's.
  • Assist with issuance and management of subcontracts and PO's.
  • Assist in budget analysis and estimating changes.
  • Coordinate time keeping and productivity reporting with field supervision.
  • Coordinate with the Project Scheduler to develop and monitor the construction schedule and prepare progress reports.
  • Coordinate purchases of materials and supplies with field supervision and procurement team.
  • Coordinate with the Quality Team to ensure timely inspections and quality monitoring.
  • Arrange and conduct site and virtual meetings to monitor the progress of the project and look ahead.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • College Diploma in Construction or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a University Degree in Engineering

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • 35 years experience in the construction industry, preferably industrial or energy sector

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of construction equipment and techniques, drawings and specifications and building materials.
  • Excellent communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • Must hold or able to acquire Reliability (or Secret) Security Clearance.
