What You'll be Doing

Serving as the first point for the Sheridan community for OHS inquiries or issues, providing information, advice, guidance, and resources and/or prioritizing, redirecting, or escalating queries;
Conducting investigations and analysis of reported hazards and recommending control measures: Cataloguing activities and compiling data to supplement the hazard identification, assessment and control initiatives;
Analyzing trends emerging from various leading and lagging indicators and advising Manager, OHS Services;
Following up on all injury or incident reports to identify root causes and ensuring prevention plans are developed to prevent reoccurrence; Advising the manager responsible for corrective actions;
Coordinating, maintaining and administering Sheridan OHS programs (Hazardous Waste, Ergonomics, WHMIS, etc.);
Developing OHS resource materials and other creative learning tools to raise awareness of and educating the Sheridan community about health and safety;
Working closely with the JHSC and Health and Safety Representatives to provide support, guidance, and resources;
Performing other related duties, as assigned.

3-year diploma/degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field

3 years of experience administering Occupational Health and Safety programs and policies (equivalency to be considered)

Experience with accident/incident investigations and implementing hazard controls

Expert knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and workplace safety principles


Familiarity with the following acts and related regulations: Environmental Protection Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act, and Workplace Safety and Insurance Act

Familiarity with the Fire Code and Building Code

Experience working in the education sector and knowledge regarding workplace violence risk assessment and management will be considered assets
