WHY THIS ROLE:

Invest Ottawa is seeking an energetic leader dedicated to helping local tech companies achieve their Intellectual Property (IP) goals.

As the IP Program Manager, you will play a pivotal role in guiding and empowering IO Venture Path clients to successfully navigate the complex IP landscape.

We're looking for a proactive problem-solver with exceptional communication skills who can collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.

Reporting to the Director, Venture Programs, your mission is to ensure the seamless delivery of our IP programs and services, providing clients with the tools and knowledge they need to protect and leverage their IP assets.

You will act as the primary liaison between Invest Ottawa, IP advisors, our Business Accelerator and Incubator (BAI) delivery partners, and our clients.

Your responsibilities also extend to shaping and executing our IP initiatives, as well as promoting these programs and services within our community.


WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:


  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key players
  • Strategically design, develop, and deliver Invest Ottawa's IP programs to tech companies within our region.
  • Collaborate with our BAI partners to ensure consistent delivery of IP services.
  • Serve as the primary contact for all IP program partners, maintaining regular communication and providing program updates.
  • Actively promote and market IP programs and IP education to Invest Ottawa startups and the broader startup community.
  • Develop workshop content with our IP Advisors, and oversee all aspects of coordinating and promoting these workshops with our Venture team
  • Assist Invest Ottawa client companies in navigating the IP funding landscape.
  • Collaborate with the broader Venture team to deliver topnotch IP services to our clients.
  • Oversee a small team of IP Advisors.
  • Oversee the IP Program budget in close collaboration with our Finance team.
  • Provide regular monthly, quarterly, and yearly reports on IP program delivery as required by program guidelines.
  • Maintain accurate client information in Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Represent Invest Ottawa at community events.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director

WHAT YOU HAVE ACCOMPLISHED/ GAINED THROUGHOUT YOUR CAREER:

  • Hold a post-secondary degree in law, engineering, business management, or a related discipline.
  • Consistently exhibits professionalism, leading by example with a positive teamoriented attitude.
  • Dedication to delivering exceptional customer experiences for clients and industry partners.
  • Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and written.
  • Display assertiveness, confidence, flexibility, and the ability to excel under pressure.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and interpersonal skills.
  • Selfmotivated with the capacity to work independently.
  • Familiarity with CRM systems like Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Previous experience with IP in the technology industry and/or the startup ecosystem is considered a strong asset.
