Job Summary
As part of the Finance Services - Operations Finance Team, the Financial Analyst is responsible for providing advice and information to the managers and staff of the Operations business group under the guidance of the Manager, Operations Finance.
The Financial Analyst will act as a focal point for inquiries on all matters pertaining to financial services, policies and procedures and the use of NAV CANADA financial accounting, forecasting, and reporting systems.
The position is responsible for analyzing OPEX variances, providing ongoing support of forecasting activities and ad hoc reporting as required.
Job Description:
Key Accountabilities:
- Perform financial analysis, verification, processing and posting of journal entries including adjustments, accruals, reversals, and recurring entries.
- Ensure reasonableness of account balances and recommends corrective actions.
- Analysis of monthly variances vs Budget and Forecast for Operations business unit.
- Participates in forecasting activities.
- Prepares all monthly financial reports for Operations business groups.
- Ad hoc duties and special projects as required.
Education/Occupational Certification:
- Postsecondary degree or diploma from a recognized institution with an acceptable specialization in accounting.
- CPA designation preferred.
Experience:
years of recent experience in following:
- Financial planning and analysis
- Preparation of variance and forecasting reporting packages for various clients
- Development of complex financial reports and manipulation of large volumes of data into user friendly reports
- Client support and advice to nonFinance groups regarding financial policies, procedures, and variance analysis and forecasting.
- Experience with complex business environments.
- Experience working in a fastpaced environment with multiple changing priorities
- Experience with Workday Financials is considered an asset.
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of theories, principles (IFRS), standards, best practices, concepts, methods, and techniques required to develop and monitor financial reporting and budgeting and forecasting procedures and processes.
- Knowledge of research, data collection, validation, verification and analysis methods and techniques for financial reporting and control systems.
- In depth knowledge of TM1 structures and data sets and manipulating data into meaningful report.
- Advanced level knowledge of Excel (functions, pivot tables, macros), PowerPoint, and Word.
Abilities:
- Ability to problem solve, innovate, and find solutions to difficult problems by identifying and resolving key issues.
- Ability to see the big picture, analyze scenarios and draw suitable conclusions
- Ability to develop and prepare financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting material with accuracy and completeness.
- Ability to develop financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting systems procedures and processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to provide consultation and handson assistance to a client community.
- Ability to set priorities and handle multiple client requests and conflicting deadlines with confidence with the appropriate level of management involvement.
- Ability to work independently with minimum direction and supervision.

- Work location is Ottawa Head Office. This position will require on site office work with the possibility of remote work in accordance with NAV CANADA's Flex work Policy in effect.
- May be required to work overtime.
- May be required to travel for training or offsite meetings upon occasion.
