Business Need / Purpose of Role


The HR Business Partner will provide support to managers and team members at the Weir ESCO Port Hope manufacturing site and will provide remote support for the Weir ESCO Edmonton, Alberta fabrication site.

The primary responsibility for this role is to support ongoing initiatives related to labour relations, talent acquisition, employee development, retention, and talent management that advance the organizational capability of the site.

Essential Job Functions / Duties- Support HR activities at the Port Hope, ON. Manufacturing site (on site) and Edmonton, AB.

Fabrication site (90% remote).- Participate in and support various aspect of HR functions including the selection process, payroll, employee engagement, training and orientation, performance management, labour relations.- Administer, interpret, and provide advice on HR policies, practices, and procedures and participate in administration of corporate initiatives and strategies.- Support the interpretation of the Collective Bargaining Agreements and compliance.- Participate in acting as Company representative in communications with the union (i.e.

Grievance meetings, business updates, assist during collective bargaining).

Facilitate and support productive and efficient Union/Management discussion and relationship on all employment matters.- Participate in investigations and provide recommendations for resolution as needed to address employee relations issues.

Prepare investigation reports and maintain relevant documentation.- Ensure adherence to plant rules and safety policies and support and coach management on the issuance of appropriate disciplinary action in line with progressive discipline.- Maintain tracking system to trend and analyze patterns of employee absenteeism with follow up issuance of disciplinary action when required.- Participate in and administer programs that support recruitment, succession planning, training, retention, and engagement.- Develop and deliver educational materials for orientation & onboarding new hires.- Support employees on the use of software tools such as Kronos and Workday.- Promote inclusion and diversity initiatives through all business processes.- Promote a safe working environment and safety culture.- Manage and execute data entry (grievances, employment records, timekeeping, etc.) into various HR systems (Workday, Kronos, etc.).- Maintain knowledge of relevant employment laws and related regulations.


Job Qualifications- Relevant post-secondary or equivalent required; CHRP or CHRL is an asset- Minimum 5+ years progressive HR experience in unionized manufacturing environment;- Labour relations experience required; 5+ years preferred.- Experience with Workday preferred- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English.- Proficiency with Microsoft office suite.- Attention to detail and positive attitude- Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve and make independent decisions- Willingness to learn - ability to take instruction and learn quickly.
