    About the opportunity

    The Department of in the Faculty of Medicine invites applications from outstanding researchers for a tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin on or after January 1, 2025. In keeping with the principles of , this position is designated to applicants who self-identify as women.

    Applicants must have a and at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience in cell biology and metabolism or related fields. The successful applicant will have demonstrated excellence in research as evidenced by a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and contribution to scientific conferences. Applicants should show potential for excellence in undergraduate and graduate teaching.

    The successful candidate is expected to develop a dynamic, externally funded research program studying cell biology and metabolism in the context of health and disease. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to, nutrient and cellular metabolism, organelle function, chromatin and gene expression, signalling networks, membrane biogenesis, and vesicle trafficking. Ideally the candidate will show potential to collaborate with existing expertise in the department as well as establish partnerships within the Faculty of Medicine. Dalhousie University also supports collaborations among different Faculties and with industry partners.

    The Department is part of a flourishing research environment where cross-disciplinary collaboration is encouraged. The Department is closely associated with the Institute for Comparative Genomics and the affiliated Integrated Microbiome Resource, the Cardiovascular Research Group, the Beatrice Hunter Cancer Research Institute, the Atlantic Research Centre, and the Infection, Immunity, Inflammation and Vaccinology Research Cluster. Program development will be facilitated by dedicated lab space, start-up funds and that include biological mass spectrometry (proteomics, metabolomics, lipidomics), transcriptomic platforms, imaging platforms (microscopy and small animal imaging), multiplexed flow cytometry, NMR spectroscopy, human tissue biobanks, small animal and zebrafish facilities. Translational research programs will benefit from connections to the near-by QEII Health Sciences Centre and IWK Health Centre.
