ASSISTANT COORDINATOR OF CUSTODIAL SUPPORT SERVICES

**Full-Time, Permanent
This is a permanent, full-time position.

Under the direction of the Coordinator Custodial Support Services, the Assistant Coordinator Custodial Support Services is responsible for advising and assisting school administrators, custodians, and purchasing personnel on matters pertaining to custodial services such as staffing, cleaning methods and standards, facilities operations, on site training, equipment, and supplies.

The Assistant Coordinator supervises custodial staff during school holiday periods, assists with the administration of the custodial central budget, performs general administrative duties related to custodial and facilities operations, on both the evening and day shifts, and other various tasks as required.


Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:

_Custodial Services Coordination_

  • Coordinates custodial staff coverage for all schools/buildings during school holiday periods, reviews custodial vacation schedules, and assigns staff for building coverage as necessary and approves overtime.
  • Responds to emergency requests for assistance related to events such as breakins, broken windows, building damage, heating, ventilation and flooding. Coordinates repairs and submits damage reports to the Coordinator Custodial Support Services.
  • Inspects cleanliness of buildings and grounds on both evening and day shifts, provides advice and assistance regarding mechanical systems, boilers, airconditioning ventilation and boiler chemical water treatment, and provides written reports to the Coordinator Custodial Support Services.
  • Advises School Administrators and custodial staff on issues pertaining to use of facilities such as security, use of supplies, cleaning, overtime and advising Permits & Transportation Section in costing of permits.
  • Acts in place of Coordinator of Custodial Support Services in the Coordinator's absence, as required.

_Supervision_

  • Assists in the orientation, training and instruction of custodial staff in the safe and proper operation of equipment and use of supplies including WHMIS regulations.
  • Monitors performance of substitutes, conducts performance evaluations for substitute staff, and advises School Administrators and Chief/Head Custodians on resolving minor disputes amongst custodial staff.
  • Participate in investigations and labour relations meetings.

_Administrative Duties_

  • Advises School Administrators and Chief/Head Custodians on budget expenditures and or supplies and equipement, including cost analysis.
  • Investigates and arranges testing on new cleaning methods, supplies and equipment.
  • Responds to emergency situations on a 24 hours basis, as required.

Qualifications:


  • Completed secondary education.
  • 5th class power engineering certificate is required. 4th Class power engineering certificate is preferred.
  • Valid class 5F Manitoba Driver's license required.
  • Six (6) years demonstrated experience in custodial services including boilers and mechanical systems.
  • Three (3) years demonstrated experience in a supervisory role with direct reports assigning work and managing performance in a unionized environment.
  • A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training to personnel, to coordinate workloads and work schedules.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of provincial building and safety codes and applicable Manitoba Health and Safety requirements in custodial services.
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office.
