Position Information:


The Ottawa Hospital has an exciting temporary opportunity If you are a results-oriented and client-service focused Human Resources professional, this may be the job for you The Labour and Employee Relations Specialist is a key member of the Human Resources team who will utilize their solid conflict resolution, negotiation and relationship building skills to collaborate with key leadership and union partners on a number of labour and employee relations initiatives and processes.

This position is temporary until approximately November 1, 2024 with a possiblity of extension.


Rotation/Shifts:

Days, 8 hour shifts.


What you will do:


  • Being the lead LR representative at all stages of the dispute resolution process including grievances, mediation and arbitration;
  • Providing advice and support to all levels of management on a variety of LR issues;
  • Engaging stakeholders in developing LR strategies; participating in Labour Management committee meetings;
  • Participating in the collective bargaining process, conducting research, drafting language proposals, participating in negotiations;
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with union partners.

What you will bring:


  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or in a related discipline (preferably HR/Labour Relations);
  • Minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience with a strong focus on Labour Relations;
  • Proven technical expertise in Labour Relations as demonstrated from working in a unionized environment;
  • Experience in providing advice and support with regard to labour relations matters involving discipline, performance, attendance management and other conflict situations;
  • Experience in preparing for, presenting and representing an organization at grievances;
  • Experience in preparing for and representing an organization at mediation, rightsarbitration, interestarbitration, Ontario Human Rights Commission hearings, and Ontario Labour Relations Board hearings;
  • Experience in preparing for and participating in contract negotiations;
  • Solid knowledge of contract administration/interpretation;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR policies and procedures, collective agreements and employmentrelated legislation (Labour Relations Act, Pay Equity Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Employment Standards Act, Public Hospitals Act, etc.);
  • Proven ability to build and maintain partnerships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Strong interpersonal and analytical acumen;
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and autonomously to manage tight deadlines and multiple priorities;
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, discretion, tact and a high degree of confidentiality ;
  • Strong presentation, facilitation and negotiations skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Proficiency in English and French oral expression (advanced level) and comprehension (advanced level).
