RESPONSIBILITIES:
Access Services Duties:
- Work regularly scheduled shifts on the Service Desk to provide front line support to library users (approx. 20 hours)
- Implement library policies
- Assist library users locating and using library materials, services, and technology (e.g. copiers, printers, scanners)
- Circulate and checkin library resources, laptops, etc.
- Provide information/reference service both inperson, by telephone, and online via the library's virtual chat service
- Supporting the maintenance of library collections including retrieving, moving, deaccessioning, and shelving library materials
- Prepare and update documentation
- Help train and supervise student assistants
- Conduct tours as required
Scholarly Communications and Resource Sharing Duties:
- Collect, organize, and enter citations and/or documents into repositories
- Provide support for UPEI's Open Educational Resources Development Program using Pressbooks platform
- Facilitate the creation of Digital Object Identifiers and ISBNs upon request
- Compile usage statistics from scholarly communications platforms
- Update content on web pages related to scholarly communications programs and services
Other Duties:
- Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Library Technician Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and related work experience
- At least two years' experience in an automated library environment
- Experience providing highquality customer service
- Able to work day, evening, and weekend shifts as scheduled
ASSETS:
- Bachelor's degree from a recognized postsecondary institution
- Work experience in a university library
- An open attitude towards new technology and learning
- Experience working with institutional repositories
- Experience using web content management systems like Drupal, Wordpress, etc.
- Ability to perform bending/lifting, and to safely handle/shelve heavy items
- Ability to deal with diverse people in a calm, courteous, and effective manner
- Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines, and work in a team environment
- Ability to exercise tact, courtesy, discretion and sound judgement
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and under limited supervision
