Environmental New Grad - Field Operations

The Opportunity:


The Canadian Natural Environmental program provides a structured approach to developing the technical, professional, and leadership skills required to be a successful environmental professional in the Canadian Natural team.

As part of this program you will be assigned varying duties, which may involve the following tasks (key accountabilities), based on business needs.

The tasks allow our staff to develop experience based on the increasing level of complexity.


Key Accountabilities:


  • Execute projects and programs efficiently through planning and organizing of work and identification of continuous improvement opportunities
  • Assist with environmental reporting and compliance obligations at sites that have AER approvals/permits, including monthly and annual reporting and soil and groundwater monitoring where required
  • Assist with risk assessment and remediation activities at operating sites for interim liability reduction, including site prioritization, budgeting, and project management of onsite personnel
  • Participate in the implementation of Canadian Natural's Environmental Management System, including communication and training for field employees and contractors
  • Perform field inspections to identify environmental compliance issues and to identify opportunities to prevent or mitigate future environmental liabilities
  • Work with Safety and Compliance groups and Operations personnel to address issues and liabilities
  • Assist initial spill responses, and oversee site activities of spill consultants and contractors
  • Ensure up to date and accurate information is tracked in Canadian Natural Databases

  • Start date: September 2023
  • Job location: St. Albert, Alberta
Shift Schedule: 5x- Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day

Skills & Qualifications:


  • Recent or pending graduation from a Degree program in a related discipline and a professional designation completed or in process of completion
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License with a reasonably clean driver's abstract
  • Previous environmental work experience as a student is preferred
  • An understanding of environmental issues within Alberta
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ArcGIS
  • Experience or knowledge in relevant environmental regulations and codes including:
  • Alberta Energy Regulator
  • Alberta Environment and Parks
  • British Columbia Energy Regulator
  • Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources
  • Environment Canada
