The Consultant, Workplace Investigations, is responsible for investigating a broad nature of sensitive and complex issues including harassment and discrimination, sexual harassment, misconduct, workplace violence, and breach of organizational policies, using best practice investigatory procedures.


The Consultant, Workplace Investigations is managing and is responsible for the full cycle workplace investigations including information gathering, investigation documentation preparation, scheduling, conducting employee meetings and interviews, evidence review, determining findings of fact, and preparing investigation summary documentation and reports, ensuring all investigation processes adhere to applicable UHN policies and Ontario employment legislation, including but not limited to, the Ontario Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act, Labour Relations Act, Employment Standards Act and the Accessibilities for Ontarians with Disabilities Act.


RESONSIBILITIES:


  • Ensuring all investigations are conducted and concluded in a way that is nonbias, timely, efficient and fair and supported by evidence and detailed documentation and findings.
  • Responsible for the intake and review of all complaints within the scope of this role and develops an initial investigation plan outlining the requirements and process required to conduct a thorough investigation, in consultation with People Consultants, Labour Relations, Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, Accessibility and Anti-Racism (IDEAA) and Legal department.
  • Informs key stakeholders, respondents, and witnesses that a complaint has been filed and provides regular updates to staff and leadership seeking information regarding the complaint, investigation, or resolution processes as required under the policy.
  • Plans, schedules and conducts the appropriate factfinding interviews to obtain information from relevant parties. Prepares all investigation materials, including but not limited to questions, documentation and/or background materials as required and ensures all investigation notes and materials are clear and organized ensuring all privacy regulations and hospital protocols are strictly adhered to.
  • Coordinates and prepares research, resources, equipment and technological requirements for conducting investigations (room booking, audio/visual, Zoom etc.)
  • Prepares thoughtful and thorough investigative reports
  • Collecting and maintaining data and metrics regarding the current environment and analyzes investigative statistics and identifies trends in complaints or violations of policies. Maintains internal investigation tracking database.
  • In collaboration with the People Consultants, Labour Relations and Legal department prepares for legal proceedings, writes briefs, reports and other materials as required, presents evidence and follows up on outcomes.
  • Responsible to maintain accurate and up to late knowledge on all applicable employment related legislation and changes
  • Responsible for ongoing evaluation of UHN's policies and protocols related to workplace investigations and providing suggestions for improvement of procedures and policies to ensure effectiveness and efficiency of UHN related policies regarding workplace complaints.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in Business, Human Resources, Diversity Equity and Inclusion or any other related field and/or recognized equivalent experience
  • Strong HR generalist experience with a history of building strong client relationships with a preference for healthcare/education/public sector experience
  • Minimum 35 years
