General Manager, Hawthorn Restaurant & Bar

As General Manager of Hawthorn Restaurant & Bar inside the iconic Fairmont Palliser Hotel, you are responsible for leading the revitalization on this renovated space by curating a superior guest & colleague experience.

You will bring experience in effective leadership, strategic planning and a thirst for innovation and trend-setting.

With 407 elegantly appointed guest rooms, and the recent completion of an extensive renovation project, the Fairmont Palliser is defining the iconic Calgary experience.

Summary of


Responsibilities:

Reporting to the hotel Director of Food & Beverage, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Accountable for managing the day to day operations of Hawthorn with active presence on the restaurant floor leading your team to deliver service excellence
• Work in partnership with the Restaurant Chef to execute the smooth and flawless operation of both the Front and Heart of House.
• Work in partnership with Restaurant Chef, Head Bartender, and Mixologists to create and maintain all restaurant menus while in keeping with the overall concept
• Constantly drive innovation to redefine the Calgary culinary experience by actively promoting Hawthorn within the community
• Accountable for driving revenue and profit through the development and implementation of strategies, practices and promotions while keeping with the overall concept of the venue
• Actively manage restaurant social media accounts in partnership with the Restaurant Chef, and Marketing Team
• Working with the Marketing Team, manage online reputation by responding to feedback, comments and/or reviews in a timely and professional manner, addressing any concerns.
• Effectively manage the departmental budget
• Effectively recruit and onboard new colleagues
• Train and lead the team in all aspects of the department to ensure service standards are followed
• Promote the growth and development of internal talent
• Maintain the health, safety and sanitation of the restaurant
• Collaborate with other departments to contribute to the overall smooth operation of the hotel
• Adhering to all Company policies, procedures and values

Qualifications:

• A minimum of 5 years' experience in a restaurant setting as the General Manager/Restaurant Manager
• A true passion for the food & beverage industry, exceeding guest expectations and developing the best team of restaurant professionals in the city
• Knowledge of current restaurant trends and a highly creative mindset (we want to set the trends, not chase them).
• Proven ability to balance driving revenues and profit, without sacrificing colleague and guest experiences
• Proven ability in menu design, offerings, effective marketing plans, and online reputation management
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
• Excellent work ethic with a high degree of responsibility
• Ability to work cohesively as part of a team and build relationships
