Job Description:


PURPOSE OF POSITION


Performs regulatory responsibilities required in the administration of the Pension Benefits Act (PBA) and regulations to ensure that the assigned portfolio of pension plans complies with legislation and are processed according to regulations, policies, procedures and service level agreements.

Provides complete processing accountability in carrying out regulatory responsibilities for a specific allocation of defined contribution pension plans.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Communicating both verbally and in writing with pension industry officials to resolve errors and compliance problems by issuing formal compliance letters identifying instances of non remittance of employee or employer contributions to the pension fund, responding to investigations and resolving increase in complaints received from pension plan members concerning benefits contributions or plan operations.


QUALIFICATIONS


Education and Experience- Experience analyzing pension plan texts and related documents in relation to compliance with pension legislation and regulations.

- Experience analyzing a range of financial documents such as financial statements, audit reports to assess if they are complete and meet requirements as set out in legislation and regulations


Knowledge and Skills- Knowledge of the PBA and regulations to review and analyze submissions and prepare recommendations for senior pension officer or Manager.- Knowledge of pension legislation in other jurisdictions to conduct research and analysis related to other pension plans.- Knowledge of internal policies and procedures to ensure that the analysis and recommendations are within established corporate policies and requirements.- Knowledge of financial research and analysis techniques and methods to conduct review of submitted financial documents to ensure their compliance with legislation/regulations.- Verbal and written communication skills to correspond with internal and external stakeholders including pension plan administrators, consultants, and Insurance/Trust Company officials.- Familiarity with pension related computer information systems or other databases.- Strong knowledge of the methods and procedures involved in the administration of defined contribution plans in order to investigate and resolve compliance issues.- General understanding of the Canadian retirement income system, annuities, and locked-in retirement savings arrangements such as a LIRA, LIF, LRIF.- Attention to detail and analytical skills to review pension plan texts, financial statements, and other documents to meet requirements and/or ensure compliance.
