    To support us on our journey, Sinai Health System is looking for a Registered Dietitian to support our Clinical Nutrition Department at Mount Sinai Hospital.

    The dietitian will be assigned a caseload according to operational requirements and may include patients admitted to general internal medicine, intensive care, general surgery, gastroenterology medicine, obstetrics and outpatient diabetes. The dietitian may be asked to assess patients in other programs as required. As a member of the multidisciplinary team, the dietitian assesses nutritional status, plans, implements and evaluates evidence-based nutrition care for patients according to Mount Sinai Hospital standards of care. The clinical dietitian participates in research, facilitates self-directed learning of dietetic interns, and educates students and medical/hospital staff.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identifies patients at nutrition risk and requiring intervention through nutrition screening, rounds, and referrals from in and out patient teams.
  • Prioritizes caseload according to nutrition risk
  • Assesses nutritional status of patients by review and analysis of medical, social and diet history, biochemical data, anthropometrics and physical examination.
  • Determines patient nutritional requirements, diet prescription, enteral or parenteral nutrition regimens and nutrition care goals. Develops implements and evaluates nutrition care plans.
  • Proficient enteral and parenteral nutrition care planning
  • Documents nutrition care using MSH Goal-Oriented Standards of Care guidelines.
  • Attends patient care rounds, team and family meetings and communicates nutrition care plan to multidisciplinary team.
  • Provides coverage during absence of dietitian(s) in related specialty/program.
  • Reviews current scientific literature related to areas of practice and applies current research in practice.
  • Presents review/analysis of literature with dietitians and multidisciplinary team through journal review, meetings and presentations.
  • Initiates/participates in practice-based research and supervises/mentors dietetic interns in research project.
  • Educates the multidisciplinary team on policies, standards, and provision of nutrition care consistent with current research.
  • Participates in the education and evaluation of dietetic interns, house staff, medical students, nurses and other allied health professionals.
  • Develops/revises standards of nutrition care for areas
  • Participates in peer review, clinical chart audits and performance appraisals.
  • Job Requirements
  • Baccalaureate degree from an accredited Foods and Nutrition Program or equivalent.
  • Completion of an accredited dietetic internship or equivalent.
  • Member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • Certified Nutrition Support Clinician designation is an asset
  • Minimum 2 years experience in acute care preferred.
  • Experience with in-patient adult acute care, nutrition support, patient education preferred.
  • Experience with practice based research an asset.
  • Experience supervising dietetic interns an asset.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as member of nutrition and interprofessional teams.
  • Ability to utilize information technology to support practice (Outlook, Word, CBORD, Infomed, PowerChart).
  • Demonstrated satisfactory work performance and attendance.
  • Hours – Weekdays according to clinical caseload and scheduling with colleagues
