Digital Communications and Social Media

Specialization:
Digital Writing and Multimodal Storytelling

We are currently seeking a qualified professional to join the team as a full time Professor specializing in Digital Writing and Multimodal Storytelling.

This position will support the development of a new degree in Digital Communication and Social Media as well as various programs in the Creative Industries portfolio (such as Game Design and Journalism among others).

Writing for Video Games

Faculty must be adept at innovative delivery methods so as to provide a meaningful learning environment for students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and ages.

Faculty will be expected to collaborate with colleagues across BCILSC - McKeil School of Business | School of Creative Industries, Liberal Studies, and Communication.

Responsibilities:

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

Designing, updating, and delivering a variety of courses which uphold academic quality and adhere to college policies and procedures.
Creating a positive, collaborative, and engaging learning environment both in the classroom and online which uphold the principles of EDI.
Mentoring and advising students from a wide range of backgrounds.
Providing innovative and inclusive educational delivery and experiences through the use of online educational technology and learning management systems (i.e. MyCanvas), for inclass and online delivery.
Using a variety of teaching and learning strategies such as Experiential Learning (EL), Universal Design for Learning (UDL), adaptive technology, and alternative delivery methodologies.
Designing accessible assessment strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement.
Working creatively and collaboratively with administrators, colleagues, staff, and students.
Managing the educational environment to facilitate an optimal learning experience and student success.
Contribute to the transformational development of the program based on the needs of a diverse spectrum of consumers.
Participating in department, school, and collegewide activities/tasks as required.

Qualifications:

A PhD in Digital Writing, Digital Communications, Media Studies, Communication and Culture, or a related discipline.
24 years teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
Demonstrated skills in developing student capacity for intercultural understanding, empathy, and mutual respect.
Proficiency using various digital technology tools.
Previous postsecondary experience developing curriculum and learning materials for both inperson and online courses.
Demonstrated experience teaching digital writing and multimodal storytelling at the postsecondary level.
Demonstrated effectively inspiring and sparking curiosity among learners as they pursue various careers in digital communication.
Demonstrated ability to relate to learners.
Created positive learning environments for students working at different skill levels including international students, Indigenous students, firstgeneration students, and students who need accommodations is an asset.
Knowledge and experience with Learning Management Systems to enhance learning.
Demonstrated commitment and understanding of human rights, equity, diversity and inclusion with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse groups of students, employees and the community.
