Position Overview:

  • We are seeking a Customer Service Attendant, Community Centres to support the daytoday operations at all of our 14 Community Centres. Successful applicants must be highly motivated individuals who can work independently and responsibly in assessing and responding to situations.
  • The Neighbourhood Programs and Services (NPS) Division has 14 Community Centres throughout the City of Kitchener. Applicants must have the ability to work sensitively and effectively with people from various abilities, life situations and cultural backgrounds. Preference will be given to those who have worked with a varied clientele including street involved people, those suffering from mental health and addiction issues, and sensitive populations. Successful applicants for this position should be able to draw upon exceptional customer service skills and to be a great team player.**
  • Responsibilities:
  • Ensure safe and efficient operation of the Community Resource Centre
  • Provide positive customer service in all aspects of job functions
  • Provide general office assistance as directed by centre staff
  • Provide general facility upkeep
  • Performs patron program registration functions
  • Attends to rentals on assigned shifts and performs all related rental duties
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Please note the applicant must be available to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, daytime, and holidays.

Requirements:


  • Minimum Grade 12 Diploma
  • Minimum 6 months of related experience including providing customer service, administrative duties, cash handling
  • Valid Emergency First Aid Certificate or be willing to obtain posthire
  • Proven ability to work independently with an ability to manage multiple tasks and job functions
  • Proven communication, problem solving, and customer service skills to work effectively with the public, staff, and volunteers in a diverse community setting
  • A working knowledge of computers to take registrations, perform cash handling, process payments, and provide community information to patrons
  • Mathematical skills and the ability to reconcile funds for partner agencies and City monies collected during shift
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Physical ability to perform duties requiring lifting and moving of equipment, shoveling, cleaning etc.
  • Experience with administration, volunteer groups, and community programming would be an asset
  • Reliable transportation to travel to a variety of locations would be an asset
  • Ability to speak multiple languages would be considered an asset
  • Must be reliable with a good attitude and employment record
  • Please note that as per Human Resources Policy _HUMHIR_110, "Employment of Relatives of Staff Members and Elected Officials":_
- "The immediate relatives of staff of the Human Resources Division, all _Directors,_ General Managers_, or the Chief Administrative Officer and Elected Officials shall not be employed by the City in any capacity._

  • The immediate relatives of all other Management personnel shall not be employed where such employment would be:_
  • 1. within the same Department in the case of permanent fulltime, temporary full_time and parttime classifications._
  • 2. within the same Division in the case of students."_
