    The company's state-of-the-art fleet consists of 15 GEO satellites, the Canadian payload on ViaSat-1 and one LEO 3 demonstration satellite.

    Our Lightspeed System Engineering team defines the performance required of all RF elements in the entire satellite communication system.

    As a Manager Radio System Engineering, you will lead all technical aspects of the radio system architecture of the Telesat Lightspeed systems in terms of air interface definition, concept of operations, functional descriptions and physical implementation of the RF functions.

    In particular, you will define the functional and performance requirements related to the radio system function as applicable to the satellite payload, user terminals and landing stations.

    Bring expert level experience to the existing team in finalizing the definition of all aspects of the radio system implementation involving agile multi-beam phased array antennas using beam hopping.

    Support the definition concept of operations for all phases of the functional requirements, including user terminal commissioning, network entry, satellite handovers, time synchronization, adaptive coding and modulation (ACM) among others.

    Develop strategies for modeling RF link performance accounting for impairments through the difference elements in the system
    Work with system architects, RF engineers, antenna engineers, User Terminal and Landing Station engineers, to partition functions between hardware and software domains

    Work with system modeling team to provide guidance on system design assumptions to be taken into account in the system model.

    Work with the network team to ensure a seamless functional interface between the network functions and the radio system.

    Collaborate with the Verification and Test group to plan proper validation of the requirements to ensure appropriate system performance.

    Sc. in Electrical, Computer or System Engineering and a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in satellite communications.
    Good experience in system design, requirement management and communication systems performance assessments
    Expert in implementation of air interfaces, modem technologies, modulation and coding and its impact on the satellite link performance
    Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or other engineering discipline or preferably Master's degree or PhD in electrical engineering with emphasis in RF/microwave circuits or communication theory
    Knowledge of digital communication systems, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, modulation types such as PSK, APSK, QAM
    Specific experience with modulation standard such as DVB-S2X and DVB-RCS2, as well as with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) methods
    Good understanding of Experience in MATLAB or other tools for modeling and analyzing RF communication systems
    Experience performing analysis and simulation of communication systems.
    Good understanding of active antenna beam forming technologies including digital beam forming, and fast beam hopping
    Experience characterizing radio performance at microwave frequencies, including rain fade and its effects on the communication links.
    Knowledge of RF transceiver architectures and digital communication theory
    Excellent oral and written communication skills
    Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with management, engineering teams and partners / suppliers.
    Experience with business considerations and practical limitations related to system design and implementation.
    Fluent in English, written and oral.
    In this role, the incumbent will provide leadership and make important technical.
    recommendations on the implementation of the Lightspeed System design
    This role will expand during the course of the program to an organization between 3 to 6 engineering staff
    Normal office environment
