Multi-sport Coach

Job Summary
Free Play for Kids is searching for dynamic, enthusiastic multi-sport coaches.

If you have experience coaching or playing all kinds of sports such as soccer, hockey, basketball or (flag) football and love working with kids of all ages, we want you.


As one of our multi sport coaches, you will work at one of partner elementary schools between the hours of 3:00-5:30 pm.

You will work under the guidance of our school site manager and our program manager to follow and bring to life practice plans that are not only fun, but also teach fundamentals of play as well as social, emotional and mental health skills.


Education & Qualifications

  • Taking, or completed, a degree or diploma in Physical Education, Sport and Recreation, Kinesiology or equivalent from a recognized post secondary institution.
  • Experience coaching/leading youth sport teams and / or extensive playing experience.
  • Valid certifications in coaching would be considered a major asset.
  • Representative of the community that Free Play serves.
  • Understanding the power of sport as a tool for social good.
  • Standard First Aid Certification and CPR training or ability to obtain quickly.
  • Valid Driver's Licence with no at fault accidents.
  • Experience with technology such as Google Meet and Connecteam apps is an asset.
  • Clear up to date criminal and vulnerable sector checks.

Responsibilities

  • Working with youth between the ages of 812 ("Free Play Year Round" program) by facilitating in person programming in collaboration with other coaches and Free Play leaders.
  • Leading practices, games, drills and activities with the ultimate goal of keeping kids focused in sessions, having fun and being safe.
  • Relating to youth from diverse communities and acting as a mentor and role model for kids in the program.
  • Conducting formal and informal skills assessments for program participants.
  • Completing additional training and certifications as required through the Free Play training program, such as Making Ethical Decisions and Safe Sport courses.
  • As an ambassador of Free Play, modeling key organization values through interactions with all internal and external partners and team members.
  • This position will evolve over time, based on initiatives and objectives identified in Free Play's strategic plan and vision.
  • In addition to normal duties, from time to time there may be work assignments arising from special events, special projects, or overall program initiatives.

Position Conditions

  • Hours of work are determined by program schedule and are typically Monday to Friday from 3:005:30pm.
  • Opportunities exist to regularly work evenings, to increase hours.
  • Pay is based on educational background, experience and certifications.

Part-time hours: 3 per week


Salary:
$17.00-$21.00 per hour


Schedule:

  • Day shift
  • Evening shift
  • Monday to Friday
