About Potash


BHP's Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP's first and most advanced potash project.

Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP's global portfolio. Jansen's large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.


Purpose:


The Mining Construction Supervisor will oversee the contractor performing daily construction activities, and coordinate between the various mining contractors within the Mining areas of surface, shafts and underground at potash level.

They are responsible for supporting the Mining Construction Superintendent to ensure the contractors and their construction execution work is properly planned and ready in accordance with engineering drawings, and that the work complies with the site requirements (focusing priorities on safety, risk, and quality).

The Mining Construction Supervisor will invest the majority of their time in the field, including underground.


About the Role:


In this role, you will:

  • Ensure the effective implementation of Jansen Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) processes, plans, procedures and ensure alignment with the project goals; ensure contractor safety and environmental plans are developed to Team Jansen standards and adhered to by the contractor
  • Champion (and participate in) the field leadership program, managing contractors to ensure Zero Harm is achieved
  • Support the Manager Mining Construction and the Construction Superintendents (Shaft) in the execution the Jansen Project Shaft, Headframe, and underground scopes
  • Support transition of contractors, including preparation for upcoming contractors and contractor mobilization, setup, and demobilization
  • Indirectly supervise and coordinate construction operations (supervisors and workers) as representative of the Integrated Potash Team leadership
  • Observe and provide feedback on compliance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Job Hazard Assessments (JHA's)
  • Coach and mentor Team Jansen workers in the field, removing barriers and ensuring safe and quality execution, stopping work if required to resolve a safety or quality issue
  • Participate in the critical risk management program as a control owner
  • Help provide coordination between contractor, owner, and other service providers
  • Monitor, report, and document contractor and subtier contractor construction activities to ensure they are performing adequately to contract requirements

Work Location:

This role will be based at the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK.

The associated work schedule will be 15 days on (12 hour day and night shifts) followed by 13 days off.

The incumbent has the option to live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Jansen site, or travel to site and use accommodations in the site camp.


About You:


  • Construction, Trade or Operations background or bachelor's degree in Engineering with relevant levels of work experience in the construction or mining industry
  • Experience supervising or leading others in the industry is advantageous
  • Experience in potash mining is considered an asset
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities and interpersonal skills to engage, influence and build solid working relationships with vendors and contractors; capable of respectfully intervening (when necessary)
  • Ability to work flexibly within the Supervisor team; possesses an understanding of all disciplines (structural, mechanical, electrical and instrumentation) to capably cover any portion of the construction
  • Enjoys working in the field, with contractors on surface and/or underground
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Adequate computer skills to learn, navigate and use Jansen software systems for reporting purposes
  • Valid Class "G" Driver's License
  • Considerable knowledge of the OH&SA and Mining regulations
  • Adaptable to changing priorities and schedules; flexibility of roster rotation (as required) to accommodate early planning in the office, dayshift and nightshift for a 247 construction execution schedule
