POSITION OVERVIEW

The City of Maple Ridge has an exciting job opening that offers a unique blend of semi-skilled and skilled work, providing the opportunity to gain valuable experience and make a significant impact.


The Pump Station Services Worker plays a crucial role in the installation, adjustment, inspection, maintenance, and repair of equipment at wastewater, drainage, and water pump stations, pressure reducing sites, and reservoirs.

The incumbent expertise will ensure the seamless operation of essential machinery and systems, working alongside experienced professionals who will support career growth.

The Pump Station Services Worker will have the opportunity to demonstrate their independence of action and judgment in routine phases of the work.


This position comes with ongoing supervision and progress checks from the management team, ensuring top-quality workmanship and adherence to established standards.

The City of Maple Ridge are seeking individuals who possess mechanical aptitude, a strong interest in equipment maintenance and repair, and the ability to interpret blueprints, sketches, and technical instructions effectively, both orally and in writing.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by technical courses and training related to the work, plus sound related experience, and eligibility to work towards additional E.O.C.P.

certifications; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and equipment used in the maintenance, repair, inspection and operation of a variety of pumping and pressure reducing stations.
  • Working knowledge of the hazards and proper safety precautions required in the work.
  • Ability to perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled tasks in repairing, servicing, inspecting and installing pumping equipment and to assist with more complex tasks.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain records related to the work.
  • Ability to read simple blueprints and sketches.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and simple written instructions.
  • Ability to direct the work of one or more helpers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the public and other staff.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions and unsanitary conditions, to climb ladders and enter confined spaces, and to wear protective gear such as a respirator, as is required for the work.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment essential to the repair, maintenance, installation and testing of a variety of pump, distribution and related equipment.

LICENCES AND CERTIFICATES

  • E.O.C.P. Water Distribution
  • Level 1 (for water service positions).


  • E.O.C.P. Wastewater Collection

  • Level 1 (for wastewater service positions).
  • Class 5 Driver's Licence for the Province of British Columbia

HOURS OF WORK
40 hours per week


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Able to inspects, cleans, services, refuels, performs minor repairs and maintains records for standby generator equipment.
  • Able to drive a service or crane truck to transport materials, equipment and workers to and from sites.
  • May direct the work of one or more workers engaged in manual tasks.
  • Able to maintains routine records related to the work
